We had the good fortune of connecting with Ko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ko, what is the most important factor behind your success?
If had to choose only one, I would say the most important factor behind my brand’s success is authenticity. I’ve been passionate about writing, food and fun my entire life! I was a foodie and content creator before the titles were popularized. Whether it was trying a restaurant off the beaten path or finding fun activities around the city, I couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it! I started off sharing my experiences, photos, and videos on review sites and my personal social media pages as a hobby. Soon enough, my friends dubbed me the go-to of the group for great places to eat, travel recommendations, and things to do. Others began to value my opinion and wanted to learn more. I believe the reason people see me as a trustworthy source is because in everything I do, I always remain true to myself and my core beliefs. I don’t believe in following every trend in the content space, prioritizing aesthetics or vibes over quality experiences, or a lack of transparency. When a business reaches out to me to visit, support, or collaborate, I only accept opportunities that align with my preferences and values and resonates with my interests and audience. I hate feeling like my money or time is wasted so I would hate to do that to my audience. Many of the posts on my social media pages and blog are unsponsored. I visit, pay, and offer any necessary feedback. I’m even faceless on social media because I think it helps with the authenticity aspect. Being authentic may not win everyone over but it has helped me build community, make genuine connections, and give much needed exposure to deserving individuals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a content creator and blogger has been a great outlet from my 9-5. I’m able to channel my creativity and create a space to be in complete control. When someone tells me my content is valuable or shares it with their community, it makes me proud. It’s been a worthwhile journey but it hasn’t always been easy. From brainstorming to creating high quality content, staying consistent to navigating self-doubt, it is a lot of work. Creators, especially those from marginalized backgrounds like myself, often face challenges with visibility, lack of opportunities, and criticism. What keeps me going is remembering why I started in the first place. I remind myself that what’s meant for me is for me and authenticity always wins in the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Metro Atlanta and the surrounding areas have so many great places to eat and visit!

Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen and Bar, Flavor Rich, and Dorothy Mae’s Soul Food Kitchen are great contenders for Soul Food and brunch. CT Cantina for tacos, margaritas, and mocktails. I would recommend Bulla Gastrobar, Poor Calvin’s, or Seaside Oyster Bar for appetizers, dinner, and drinks. For Caribbean takeout, we’d have to hit up La Citadelle Bakery, Fireside, and K&S Jerk Shop. If they’re a ramen or pho lover, Okiboru Ramen, LanZhou Ramen, and ATL Pho. If we’re in the mood for some variety, Politan Row or the Avalon. Chibo Coffee, Brooklyn Tea, or Just Add Honey are my picks for a relaxing cup of coffee or tea. I definitely wouldn’t let them leave without getting some wings!

I love laid back activities so we’d hang out at a distillery or brewery, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the High Museum or a smaller art gallery, and have some competitive fun at an escape room or axe throwing. If the weather’s nice, a festival or live music event. There’s always something going on.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give credit to my cofounder Staci. She plays a huge role in Bite Crew ATL. Whether it’s being a sounding board, her encouragement, or taking pictures, her support is immeasurable.

My friends. They were here before my brand became a brand. They send recommendations, give me honest feedback, and have adapted to the “camera eats first” mantra.

My supporters. They are genuine and motivate me daily. They could support any creator they want to but they chose me. They make it worthwhile!

Fellow content creators. It’s a great feeling being surrounded by like-minded and supportive individuals. They have taught me so much on this journey!
