Meet KL Allen | Fashion Designer & Film Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with KL Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KL, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I could remember, I have always wanted to have my own business. When I started my Fashion Label in 2007, I had already had a love for fashion but I really wanted to immerse myself in the Fashion World. I took a year to research the fashion industry before I officially launched my business. I knew that I have to know the not only the fundamentals of business but of the fashion world and how overtime I could make my brand a household name. I also knew that I had to adapt with the times and trends and find my target market and my core customer. My thought process was that whenever I started my business no matter what happens, I always want to be able to sustain and remain in business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Name is KL Allen, I am a Independent Producer as well as a Celebrity Designer with a growing successful fashion label, Perfect Population By: KL Allen. With design’s highly sought out by Celebrity Wardrobe Stylists, Celebrities and Industry Insiders, the label has been featured on notable celebrities such as American Idol and Grammy Award Winning Singer Fantasia Barrino, Reality Star and Supermodel Cynthia Bailey from RHOA along with Kenya Moore as well as Grammy Award Winning Singer Mya Harrison, Gospel Award Winning Group Mary Mary, Que from Diddy’s Making The Band Day 26, Love & Hip Hop Stars Erica Dixon and Karlie Redd and Kari Wells from Bravo’s hit series Married to Medicine along with being featured in countless Magazines along with being on National Television networks BET, VH1, MTV, BRAVO and OXYGEN. The brand has went on to be showcased in New York Fashion Week while being accepted into London, Paris and Milan Fashion Week. I am very proud that my new Fall/Winter 2021 Collection will debut in Emerging Talents Milan Fashion Week in February and this has been a goal of mine for many years to be recognized as an International Designer and I will finally have that moment. I am also very excited that I will be opening VIP Access Showroom & Boutique in March of this year. It will be my very first showroom and boutique and a Flagship store for my Perfect Population Fashion Label. It was not easy getting here, I have had to overcome financial struggles as well as being set back time after time. What I’ve learn the most is how to prepare for moments like that which may come about in the future. I want the world to know that my brand is always evolving and will change with the times for the better. I know that I must always stay ahead of my time in order to be one of a king and original.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend were visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever I think I would start with taking them to some of my favorite spots in Atlanta. I start by taking them to Ra Sushi in Midtown during Happy Hour for the best Sushi you can find in town along with Drinks. Ra Sushi has a variety of Sushi but they know my order by heart. I would order the Rainbow Sushi, The Spicy Tuna Roll and a Cosmo for the drink. Another favorite eating spot I would take them to is Joe’s on Juniper. They have the absolute best Wings both Hot and Lemon Pepper Flavor and followed up by a Green Envy for the drink. In terms of shopping in Atlanta. I think I’d take them to Atlantic Station which has some of the best Retail Shops such as H&M, Forever 21, Express and more. For some fun, I’d take them to Andretti’s in Alpharetta for some Rock Climbing and Go Karts. I’d follow up with a day at Six Flags over Georgia my favorite Theme Park! Let’s not forget, I love some bowling so I’d take them to the new bowling spot called Bowlero in Atlantic Station.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout Malcolm Hunter of Harry Norman Realty for being a support in helping me secure my very first Fashion Showroom and Boutique and also becoming an investment partner in the business. With his expertise in Real Estate and Business, I was able to secure my space and begin building it out. As you know he is a very successful Real Estate Agent in the Atlanta Area so his support and expertise has helped me to further my business.
