We had the good fortune of connecting with KJ Fraser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KJ, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From my point of view, this world craves for more expression. My art is merely my own self expression and entertainment. The thought of my work having the power to help someone in anyway — whether it be to see, hear or feel what they are experiencing makes this path worth traveling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe when creating a new project it should always stand out from the last — that includes everything surrounding it. I simply enjoy the entire creative process beginning with brainstorming to writing it down on paper. I love listening to different sounds and deciding what direction I want to go with it all. I embrace the challenge of separating myself from my previous works. I tend to include real life events that I’m experiencing in my music. Consequently, I create a separate story to keep the audience engaged.
The challenge is ensuring everything comes together as one, cohesive story. I strive to be myself and not shy away from reality while also creating a new reality in which any listener can experience. Nothing is easy — especially on this path I’ve taken. You have to possess the mindset of pushing forward and never give up on yourself or your art. In the end, I want the world to understand that everything I accomplished was by my design. I cultivated my own sound and did things my way. I wont stop until I’m in the conversation as one of the best to ever do it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the chance that one of my friends is coming down to visit me in Atlanta for the first time…we are definitely hitting all sides of the block. Hahahaha, but in all seriousness the first place we would probably go is Little Five Points. I enjoy the art surrounding that area and also shopping for clothes so it would be cool to splurge while also showing someone around. As in for where to eat, we can literally go mostly anywhere. One thing I’ve learned about Atlanta is the food will almost never fail you. Another place we might have to go is the Coke Factory, mostly since I haven’t been in a while so that would be dope to go back. Atlanta always has something going on so I’m sure us walking up the street we could find something to do.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my family for always encouraging me to express how I feel about anything.
