Meet Kirk Harris: President, Kaptain Kirk Clothing Co.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirk Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirk, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself the single most important decision that has contributed to my success was my decision to further my education. Now, before I go any further I do not mean formally furthering my education. I mean by taking the initiative to learn everything I could about my industry, business in general, sales, marketing, people, negotiating etc. To this day I may not be an expert in any of these areas, but my decision to enhance my knowledge in them has been the greatest benefit to my success thus far. It has given me insight, taught me lessons, opened doors, helped me help others, and so on. This decision has literally been the gift that keeps on giving.

What should our readers know about your business?
Kaptain Kirk Clothing Co. is an apparel decorating company. Our offerings include direct-to-garment printing, embroidery, and screen printing to name a few. What sets us apart from others in our industry is the time we take to get to know and understand our clients, their wants, needs, desires, and goals. By taking this time we feel it better positions us to achieve their desired results. As an organization there are so many things we are proud of, but at this particular time it is our work with community organizations. Getting where we are today has not been easy, the hurdles are non-stop, the challenges continuous, and the problems never cease. What has helped us overcome these obstacles is learning. Learning provides a base of knowledge to pull from when times get tough. Mentors provide advice, strategies, motivation, and energy when they are lacking, and never quitting is the glue that keeps it all together. So many lessons have been learned on this journey, but the one that is currently front of mind is that the buck stops with you and all of the responsibility is yours. What do we want you to know about us, that we are dedicated to our clients success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because of my work schedule I do not get to hang out much, but if my best friend were visiting for the first time, I would take them to a United game. Stop by the Hall of Fame. Have meals at John’s Fine Foods, the Fortune Cookie, Busy Bee, Thumbs Up, and Island Vibes. Visit the Beltline and Piedmont Park. Attend a NASCAR event, drop by South River, and check out the Blaze.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to all the clients and customers that have placed their trust in us and given us an opportunity. There are entirely too many to try and name, but every day I am thankful that you gave, and keep giving us a shot. We have been supported by so many individuals, businesses, organizations, government entities, etc. that I am often baffled at the amount and variety of those we have been blessed to serve. If anybody who reads this has ever given us a chance, referred us, or talked about us please understand that the appreciation I have for you cannot be measured. Thank you!
