We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinesis Theory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kinesis, why did you pursue a creative career?
We all individually grew up exposed to different genres of music in some way. For each of us music has always been a part of our everyday lives. The lead singer, Taylor, and background vocalist, Jamika, are sisters who group up in a multi-talented family surrounded by musicians and vocalists. The drummer, Ty, started off playing the piano, singing, and then learned how to play the drums. Eleye Mostai, the producer, was introduced to music at a young age. He also plays the guitar and piano. So for Kinesis Theory it was inevitable to pursue a creative path professionally. Creativity has been a part of our lives since childhood. It’s in our blood. So we wanted to create a safe space to show others how they can create a platform to express themselves like we did.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The main thing that sets us apart is our sound. Traditionally rock isn’t known for many harmonies in their sound. We don’t think when people see us this is what they’ll expect to hear, but, they will love it

It took a lot of time and patience to get to where we are today, but it was definitely worth the wait.

Some lessons we’ve learned would be to believe in yourself and to keep going. It all be worth it.

We are excited for people to hear our music and feel the artistry. We are most proud of the originality and the hard work we’ve put into our work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Most of us from the band are originally from the Atlanta area so we tend to stay away from the tourist areas. However, there are a few spots that we frequent and like to take family and friends that visit. We love the little five points area. It kind of fits our vibe. It has some great bars, burger joints, and even vintage clothing. It’s a pretty eclectic area. Our favorite spots in little five points is the Vortex Bar and Grill. They have the best burgers! Psycho Sisters is a vintage clothing store in Little five points area too. They have trendy accessories you don’t really see anywhere else. We would also take our friend(s) to Joystick Gamebar off Edgewood Ave. It has a bar with old school arcade games and pinball. Even if you’re not really a gamer you would definitely enjoy it. Then we would probably take our friend to the High Museum of Art. They hold different art exhibits. I mean, we are creatives. Whether it’s music, photography, sculptures or paintings. We have this love for creativity and art. These visits can even spark new ideas for us. Finally, we would probably end our days at Pullman Yards where they held the Stranger Things exhibit. They also had the Jurassic World Exhibition there. There are weekly events and they often have food trucks available.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Musically we come from so many different backgrounds. And with us being different ages, our influence has a large range. That’s one of the things that makes us unique. And the fact that we love all different genres of music. We have even exposed each other to different artists and bands. However, specifically would like to give some credit to some musicians and bands who have directly influenced our sound and contribute to our love for music and musicianship. We give credit to Paramore. Hayleys voice is iconic and a female lead at the time was fairly new and same for The Cranberries. Dolores’ raspy tone was one of a kind. We have to give credit to the Foo fighters for their writing and writing about what was/ is happening in real time and using music to help us heal through pain because they related alot to us. Of course we have to give credit to Aerosmith and Nirvana. They are old school and their sound alone was unmatched. Recognition goes out to Evanescence. There is no band out there that sounds like them. Amy Leeis an amazing vocalist. Her voice is so unique. As far as recognition goes we have to give credit to the one and only Prince. Not only did he have an outstanding vocal range but he was a true musician and icon. And finally, we can’t be a rock band and not give credit to Queen. Freddie Mercury’s fantastic voice and Queen’s use of harmonies in their music was amazing.
