We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Seheult and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I come from an entrepreneurial background, with both of my parents owning and managing multiple companies throughout my upbringing in Trinidad and Tobago. So, working for myself was always something I envisioned. The only question was which career choice would bring me the most joy.
I knew early on in life, like age 14, that I wanted to be a therapist. I had a lot of emotions as a typical teen. I loathed school and probably presented with Attention Deficit (ADD) symptoms. This looked for me, a lot like frustration and anger. I learned for a fabulous therapist that I could still be this badass, cool chic “and” harness those intense emotions in ways that served me well.
At the age of 25 I transitioning from my role as a master’s level therapist in an all-men’s maximum security prison to community-based intensive care intervention with children and families in the community was a significant shift in my career. After years of dedicated study and hard work, I earned my doctoral degree and took a step toward opening a private practice to support my community. My work focuses on individuals and families as a system. My goal has always been to provide assistance and care humbly.
This journey has been a reminder of the complexities of the human experience. It’s about moving from challenging environments to ones where hope is nurtured, from working with hardened individuals to helping children navigate their emotions. With my private practice, I aim to offer compassionate support to those seeking guidance and healing. Every day, I am reminded of the importance of humility and empathy in our shared journey toward well-being.
What should our readers know about your business?
East Cobb Counseling is a private practice in Marietta. Our goal is to provide the best psychotherapy experiences to our clients. Each clinician at ECC has their own unique approach and process. Curating a really diverse staff has been such a fun process. We are a tight group which shows when our community enters our door. Our client-focused approach means we tailor our treatment to meet the clients needs. The client has an innate sense of what these needs are and they have chosen us to join them and assist them in their theraputic journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question depends on who is visiting. If it’s my sister’s and their kids, it’s the Atlanta Aquarium, the Zoo and our neighborhood pool. If it’s friends from college, it’s a nice dinner, like Nan Thai, Mac’s on the Square or The Select and if it’s my vegan friends, it’s Planta.
Atlanta has such a robust entertainment scene. So concerts at Chastain, Cirque du Soleil or a Candlelight Orchestra Series is always super fun. Truthfully, we love to cook in our house, so everyone around a grill or stove and some wine on our patio brings people together and sets the stage for great conversation and connection. That’s the best!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of thanks to my family. They have encouraged, supported, and loved me throughout my journey. I have met many wonderful educators, advisors, teachers and mentors who have guided me with wisdom and example.
