We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Safford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My desire to start my business was based on going through my own process of healing and discovery and in doing that I discovered my purpose. I was a person that did not have work life balance, I basically ignored my need to heal, I suffered in silence and felt alone as I struggled with understanding the need to show up for me, I thought it would be selfish of me to not put others before me .I did not grow up in the time that talked a lot about self care, after going through my own journey, I made it my personal mission to help others. This is the reason behind starting my own coaching and consulting company. My passion is to help other women; especially working women to heal , grow and discover their purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Registered Nurse and Certified Cpr Instructor and Teacher. I have built my career on my love and compassion for people. People of all races and backgrounds. I like to see people healed and well and so I take pride in getting to know all of my patients on an individual level. I just believe when you connect with people they are more open to hear you, to take your advice and do what it takes if at all possible to get well and live well. I try to treat all my patients special , I want them to leave me feeling better.

My career has not been all easy; Extrinsincaly I have had to prove myself in ways that I didn’t think I had to. Intrinsically it hasn’t been easy in the sense of not understanding the importance of self care and work life balance. I eventually learned this skill. To take time out for me is the best way I could teach my patients. I had to be the example of Being well; working well and living well. Mind- Body-Spirit connection and alignment is key to my balance and my continued career and business. This is why I have been intentional about building this safe space; The Holistic Hub; a place for all women, a safe space no matter their career or background to come and grown and be healed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Summertime Chicago is my most favorite times of year. I would definetly have to hit up a nice roof top brunch spot ,deep dish pizza is a must and the infamous Rainbow ice cream or Garretts popcorn for dessert. We could also swing by downtown and visit all the nightime scenery like Buckingham fountain and maybe a nice walk along the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many mentors ….some that are aware and others I admire from afar and have used their strategies and tools. First I would say My Pastor; Pastor John F Hannah has been very instrumental in my life and has pushed me and contributed to my personal and spiritual growth as well as my healing journey. Secondly ; I cant even begin to name all of the women that have helped me, encouraged me and contributed to my growth. I am definetly someone that believes that we learn from all people and we develop holistically but If I can mention one person that has inspired me and left an impression on my life is Shanta-Hogan Walker; she is determined and resilent and one that has overcome her own personal struggles and now is building a place to help others do the same .Shanta has a Non-Profit named Cora’s Helping Hands. I just love the work that she does, helping communities one at a time. Shanta has a huge even coming this fall where she will be celebrating other women who have overcome various obstacles and will also be awarding college scholarships.
