We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The opposite of risk taking is playing it safe. I don’t know of anyone who has achieved any level of success or attained loft goals without taking risks. Risks can be subjective or objective in nature. Subjective risks are those that pretty much impact and affect us on a personal level. I can take emotional, relational, and spiritual risks that no one would every know about, because they are internal in nature. Objective risks are more readily identifiable because they involve putting things on the line like money, property or even our business resources. There is even a risk that must be taken in our relationships. Every advancement in business/career and life will require us to connect to new people, places and things. It has always been the case for me. I always say our rate and level of success is directly correlated with what we are exposed to. Change, transformation and growth all require us to be vulnerable and take risks.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the CEO and visionary of Living on Purpose Life & Empowerment Coaching. I love what I do as a Master Life & Empowerment Coach. I work with individuals and groups in the identification and application of their purpose. I encourage people to LOL – Live Out Loud.

I started my business over 10 years ago. I launched out into full-time entrepreneurship about 7 years ago. I walked away from a successful career in the mental health/substance abuse recovery arena to do what I loved to do. I have always loved helping people who are striving to overcome challenges, because that’s the path I had to take. There were many challenges in my life, but between my faith and my passion to succeed, I was able to overcome.

I was told many years ago that I had an innate ability to succeed in business, and I had attempted and failed many times to thrive in the world of entrepreneurship in so many different areas. There were many other business ventures, but I knew I had finally struck gold with the coaching.

I know I said failures, but I really don’t ascribe to that word or idea. With every attempt I made with other business ventures, I learned something new. That is why I call every experience a “teachable moment.” I would advise every person striving for success in any area of life, to change their perspective about how they view their challenges. That’s the only way I have been able to not only survive, but thrive in business and life. It has not been easy.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, I am also a pastor. I am a woman of faith. That has been the most impactful factor in my success. I pray about my business on a daily basis and get my instructions from the Bible. I surround myself with positive people who understand my purpose, and don’t allow me to drop below what they know I am capable of accomplishing in my life and business.

One of my greatest accomplishments is creating a program where I certify coaches. That is actually one of my flagship programs and I am always excited when I can equip others to do what I do. I believe this is the hour of the coach, because so many people are trying to find their way. The pandemic has required us all to think differently, strategize and map out new paths. That’s exactly what coaching does. To be able to help equip others to coach is an honor. The Living On Purpose Coaching Certification Program has certified and trained coaches globally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow…let’s see. I would take my friend to some of the coolest places I have visited in the Atlanta area. We would get some good exercise in climbing Stone Mountain. I love doing that. I would also take them to Nan Thai or The Garden Restaurant in Atlanta, that I just recently had an opportunity to experience and loved it. I would take them downtown to visit some of the historic sites in Atlanta. Depending what’s happening at the Fox Theater, we may go to a play or concert there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, absolutely. Firs of all as a woman of faith, I MUST thank God for His faithfulness to always lead me in the way that I should go. My life is what it is because of God’s faithfulness. I also have to give a huge shoutout to my husband Louis D. Jones, Jr. He is my biggest cheerleader and motivator. In our 22 years of marriage, he has always encouraged me and often reminds me of my capacity to do more.
