We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had a passion for art and beauty dating back to being a kid…My Mom would often find me in her bathroom in the middle of the night trying on her lipsticks, and I vividly remember the feeling of excitement I had after having my makeup done professionally the first time. Initially I started my journey interning as a wardrobe stylist later transitioning into makeup artistry, which pretty much go hand in hand. I’ve always loved the feeling of seeing a look come together full circle. That time I spent working on sets helped sharpen my eye by fine tuning attention to detail. This experience gave me a better understanding of versatility when creating different looks. There’s a lot more to it than just slapping a color on someone. It’s the intentionality of making selections that work best for what’s being conveyed. Most importantly it’s a collaborative effort between me and my clients. Seeing the right shades and tones transform and elevate a look, or even how lipstick has the ability to shift one’s mood. Doing makeup on myself actually served as a confidence booster for me as well, and I wanted to use my artistry as an extension and discovery of self love to my clients. It’s about helping them navigate the world of beauty standards, uncovering what works, and learning to appreciate their best self.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A lot of people that meet me typically ask do I “like” doing makeup. My response is usually “No, I LOVE it!” because my passion is rooted in the job I do. Even though I’ve worked professionally for a while now I’m excited that my journey is really just beginning. People often assume that a creative profession is all glitz and glamour but I can fully reassure you it’s not. If I can be fully transparent, I’ve had moments in my journey where I questioned whether or not this career choice is something I should pursue. At a point, I lost everything I had which really took a toll on me mentally and emotionally having to start over. You feel like a failure, you know?…I wasn’t inspired at all and the spirit of comparison weighed heavily on me. Despite that I knew God placed a gift inside of me and I couldn’t envision myself doing anything else. It really shifted my attitude and perspective more than anything. So, I used that time to strategize and push forward. Although it challenged me in every way possible, it pushed me to fight through a sucky season, and taught me a great deal of resilience to show up anyway and keep going.

As an artist, it’s easy to look at someone else’s body of work, likes/comments on social media, and wish you had the same. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned thus far is each artist is set apart in their own right. Your work isn’t meant to replicate anyone else’s, because God gave you your own unique creative abilities. It’s up to you to continue to sharpen that iron and fine tune the lane that you’re called to.

On my path, I discovered how much I love everyday glam and Bridal makeup. So, that’s what most of my clients inquire to book me for. I love discussing all the details and truly grasping their vision of how beautiful they want to look on their wedding day. Most importantly, it’s about the overall experience ensuring that I’m providing the best service since that’s what they deserve. Makeup is not only an art to me but a science, which I used as a play on words naming my business Beaute Kimistry. It’s more than just the art of makeup, and the message behind my brand is much deeper for me. It’s the rapport between myself and my clients and the chemistry of the creative process. As I previously stated doing makeup on myself served as a confidence booster since I’ve struggled with self image before. A lot of woman have shared their vulnerabilities with me, so I definitely understand the feeling of falling victim to fitting “beauty standards” that we weren’t designed to fit in the first place. Experimenting with different looks allowed me to step out my comfort zone…learn to love my own beauty, discover what works best for me, while appreciating how God made me.

Along with continuing to improve and build my business one of my major goals is mentoring with teenage girls in my community. Working to help them find their voice through the art of makeup. My journey hasn’t been easy, and nothing worth having is. I think it’s definitely a crucial take away as an entrepreneur to grasp that early on. Just know you’re never on your journey alone, pressure produces purpose, and always remember who your source is.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooo that’s a tough one there’s so many choices. Knowing me and her we’ll do a little bit of everything and eating at all the great food spots in between. Alpharetta was my previous stomping ground so paying a visit to Cafe Efendi and Mambo’s Cafe is a must for sure. Shopping of course which is pretty much a given, brunch at Garden Parc, watching a Falcon’s game, and definitely dinner at The Sun Dial. It’s hands down one of my favorite spots in the city. To top it off we’ll probably take a girls trip to Chateau Elan and good luck getting us to come back though.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God of course because without Him nothing is possible. He’s definitely guided me on my journey, giving me provision on the direction my business should go, and opening doors for me I never imagined possible. My clients who I can’t thank enough for trusting and continuing to support my work.

Sly and Camille- Dad, thank you for your continuous knowledge and business advice and being a sound board. Especially listening to my rants when I’m sure you’d rather watch football lol. Mom, you’re undoubtedly the strongest person I know, you’re the core inspiration of why I do what I do. Thank you for teaching me to be bold and courageously go after what my heart desires while staying rooted in my faith. I wouldn’t be where I am without your constant love and support even when things didn’t make sense. Thank you both for never giving up on my dream and backing me no matter what.

Bea and June- My beloved Grandparents, the orginal Beaute and Chemist, I hope you’re smiling down from heaven proud.
