We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Graham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I personally saw a lot of hurt in the entrepreneurial world that honestly I didn’t even realize was there until I started figuring out my business finances for myself. While I was working my 9-5 (I was an elementary school teacher, as was my husband), we were able to pay off our $76,000 of student loans within 28 months and I assumed that this was something that most people did. When I realized it wasn’t, I would casually share our story and help people along their way and never thought much about “coaching” or starting a business. It wasn’t until I decided to leave my teaching job to stay at home with my daughter, that I realized I really liked working for myself. I had a direct sales gig at the time and it was then that I realized, “WOW, I thought entrepreneurs would surely have a system for paying themselves and being financially secure in every sense. I mean, they work from home and their pictures always look so glamorous!” Once I started digging and finding out my own personal way of managing my business finances, it was then that I realized most of those IG personas are fake. People are hurting. Majority of business owners (especially female business owners) don’t pay themselves or even have a plan for where their money is going in their home or business. It was then that I realized I had a bigger calling! I was willing to do the research to create the systems and work alongside female entrepreneurs to help them take back control of their business and home finances. They work far too hard to live in “guess mode” when it comes to their money. They need to be in complete control at all times. That’s what birthed KG Financial, LLC. I love that I get to be part of that journey for my clients.

What should our readers know about your business?

My business KG Financial,LLC is focused on the successful female entrepreneur who wants to make certain her business AND home finances are in order so she can continue to scale her business with authenticity. My flagship program, Financially Fearless, aims to make sure that my clients are armed and prepared for those everyday “uh oh”s that normally take people off course of their goals (ie: “unforeseen” bills, auto maintenance, surprise tax bill etc). What sets my programs and approach apart is that I’m not just going to meet with them quarterly and assume they’re making progress. I get in the weeds with my clients, working through the hills and valleys of their journey WITH them. On average my clients realize savings between $300-$1200 within the first couple weeks of working with me. And they see those savings towards the things they care about (pay off debt, savings, auxiliary funds) within the first 90 days. My clients have paid off and saved over 250K in the past 18 months and several of my clients are now living debt free in their home and business while working on their own terms!

It hasn’t been easy finding the rhythm of my business, I had some serious mindset flaws starting out (for myself and my clients). I assumed everyone wanted understanding of their financial wellness and that I’d have wait lists galore! That was far from the truth. I have found that people (in general) are scared, ashamed and even prideful in the idea that they should have someone teach them something that they ‘should’ inherently know. I’ve had to work through educating my clientele on the misconception of this fact, you didn’t just ‘learn’ to ride a bike or drive a car, you needed help and some guidance. Money touches everything and yet we’re only given bits and pieces of general information on how to manage money correctly. It’s not tailored to your family, business, goals, needs etc. The clients who get that realize the value in my programs and see the most results. They’re tired of trying “all the things”, constantly hitting the same snags in their plans or not following through and seeing the results they want to see.
With the many clients I’ve worked with, I’ve learned that every business and home situation is different. Whenever I start with a client, I have a basic idea of what tools and conversations we’ll have in our time together, but it changes drastically with each client! In fact, there isn’t a system or plan I’ve created that is exactly the same as another. My spreadsheets, conversations, goal write ups, mindset conversations are different for each and every person. Money management is not one size fits all and that’s why I offer the personalized services that I do. I truly love seeing every one of my clients find their own level of success!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people deserve recognition in my story. We cannot get to where we are without others cheering us on. My husband is my everything and my cheerleader. He’s the best partner one could have on any journey and I’m so happy he chose to go on this adventure of entrepreneurship with me. My girls (1 and 4) and my family are seriously the best. There aren’t enough words to convey how much I appreciate them. My Goal Gal squad is my group of close friends that are constantly striving for more- we meet quarterly to share the progress of our newest goals and we don’t hold back on our dreams. They see my scariest dreams and goals before the world does! You need to have people in your corner like this! My coaches, Alex and Jenny have been pivotal in different shifts in my business. They’ve helped me level up my mindset and break through the toughest moves faster than I could have by myself. I owe a lot of my success to them. They shaped the coach I am today. Also, Amy Scott. My first personal financial coach. Her willingness to teach me at the very beginning was what started this journey. She actually put the seed into my head that “I’m different, and could totally do this coach thing” to which I said “HA” and look at me now!.
