We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to bring a taste of Florida to Atl. Being a Florida native I have tired several of Atlanta’s favorite spot nothing compared to Florida, while cooking seafood for family & friends became more consistent I figured what Atlanta need is some good flavor seafood at it’s fingertips.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As of today what sets my business apart from others is the customer service the quality & quantity of food just to name a few. Ill start with customer service I despise going to my favorite restaurant to get my favorite meal and I have terrible service & and my food sucked, I control the narrative every meal is fresh to order, affordable and filling and served with gratitude because I understand without repeat customer I couldn’t be here today.
I got to this point professionally by providing actually the things that set my business apart from others going back to the unremarkable customer service, quality and quantity of food provided. And a-lot of sleepless nights. This journey was by easy for me think about how I started selling seafood plates out of my home on social media. I would receive backlash about “how we know your house clean” to the point Id post pictures of my kitchen & going live just so people could see the environment it was crazy but I was open to do what I needed to do if it gained a client.
Another struggle I encountered was I had too many orders but only 1 of me you may not see that as a struggle but when people are waiting almost 2 hours because 285 shut down for some reason now their fresh to order food is getting cold. Even when I hired & fired a driver who had the worst customer service all in the same day. Just like any other business of I had the times where I may days where Im overwhelmed with orders and some days where I have none. The road to a successful business is by far easy its survival of the fittest only the strong survive.
Some of the challenges we faced with my business have been overcome by the partnership of UberEats it relieves that added stress of having to deliver with being a one man band I previously had. Not all days are great but as long as we have progress forward I am ok with that.
In all honesty one of the most important lessons that Ive learned along the way is not everyone wants to see you succeed, majority of your supporters are strangers not friends or family and that is ok keep pushing, you got this! I want the world to know Whip Seafood by KG is small but packs a mighty punch we are wiling to go above and beyond to be in the top seafood restaurants in Atlanta, come get seafood whipped by KG

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to this platform for even recognizing some of the small businesses and giving them their shine I love this concept. Now my shouts a little lengthy so bear with me please.
I first would like to shout anyone who has purchased food from me when I first started my business & those who are still clients till this day. When I first started the business I was solely selling plate using the free platform of Instagram. I blew up during the pandemic and decided to make the business official as far as obtaining a business license these folks would wait almost a hour for me to deliver their food coming from across town in this crazy Atlanta traffic or even from another delivery. Them having patience and still continuously order knowing its going to be a while made me realize I had a excellent product on hand, thats what gave me the drive I needed to keep going as a business owner.
I secondly would like to shoutout
my friend Shadina. She is the owner of 1 of the top 5 surrogacy agencies in GA . When it came down to obtaining all necessary licenses, health inspection codes& safe serve information to run the business she was a goat. She would send me food festivals the criteria needed for the events and come be my assistant with a smile on her face. To this day she still sends me food festivals and offers help with a complaint. This kind of help is almost unheard of nowadays everyone is looking for something in return or what can the get out the deal but she a real rare breed real genuine.
I also would love to shot out to anyone who has shared, liked or commented on any of my post on any of my social media platforms. Word of mouth has taking me by surprise to help me fill my orders daily..If you have purchased a meal with me I appreciate you endlessly
For keeping my business afloat 4 years strong thats why I do the customer appreciation free plate give aways every 3 months despite with my financial advisor recommendation is. She be so mad but she doesn’t understand these people keeping my doors open despite man small businesses having to shut down, It’s a must I return the love.
