Meet Kimberly Cotterell | Entrepreneur & Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Cotterell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always naturally gravitated toward the arts — whether it was learning an instrument, being in an art class, or any moment that allowed me to explore entertainment or creativity. I had a deep love for it from the very beginning. As I got older and realized I could actually turn my passion into a career, it became a no-brainer for me to pursue my dreams. That journey started with becoming a professional dancer, and eventually expanded into modeling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is built around creating unforgettable experiences—whether that’s through high-energy events like my weekly Dancehall Delight in Atlanta, modeling, or the production of new cultural fitness class Soca Waisted.
What sets me apart is my ability to fuse culture, entertainment, and community in a way that feels authentic. I’m not just throwing parties—I’m building spaces where people feel seen, celebrated, and inspired. That wide-ranging experience gives me a unique lens when it comes to storytelling, branding, and audience connection.
Getting to this point wasn’t easy. The biggest challenge? Walking away from the comfort and financial security of a 9-to-5 to unapologetically bet on myself. I chose to trust my gifts, hustle hard, and prove that my vision was worth the risk—and I haven’t looked back since.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about waiting for the perfect opportunity—it’s about creating your own lane and inviting others to ride with you. I’ve learned to honor my voice, embrace my culture, and trust that the people who are meant to connect with what I offer will find me.
What I want the world to know is this: My brand is rooted in energy, authenticity, and community. Whether I’m hosting an event, building a campaign, or curating fitness class culture in Atlanta, I’m doing it from a place of passion. I’m not here to follow trends—I’m here to lead with intention and leave a legacy of joy, connection, and cultural pride.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d make sure they got the real Atlanta experience—a perfect blend of culture, vibes, and those hidden gems that make this city special. We’d kick things off with brunch at The Breakfast Boys a go-to for Southern flavor with a modern twist and Caribbean options on the menu.
Of course, no week would be complete without Dancehall Delight, my weekly event every Wednesday night that brings Caribbean culture and dancehall rhythms to life. That’s where they’d truly see my world in full color—pure energy, movement, and vibes.
On Friday, we’d switch gears and head straight to Soca Waisted Friday because what’s a trip with me without a night of nonstop soca, waistline, and Caribbean energy? Then we’d soak up the arts at the High Museum of Art for Frequency Friday after class, a beautiful mix of music, creativity, and culture.
We’d rent scooters and cruise along the Atlanta BeltLine, stopping into spots like Ponce City Market for rooftop drinks, shopping, and a little people-watching. Toward the end of the trip, we’d wind things down with a slow, delicious dinner at South City Kitchen, soaking in one last taste of Southern hospitality and reflecting on the memories we’ve made.
Atlanta is overflowing with creativity and soul. I’d make sure my best friend saw every side of it—from high-energy nightlife to peaceful escapes at Roswell Mill Waterfall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first thank Anthony Douglas — his resilience, determination, and consistency throughout his career and daily life has truly inspired me to keep pushing myself and never settle for less. He has also been the driving force behind my journey into entrepreneurship and event planning, helping me believe in my ability to lead and create. I’m also deeply grateful to Vanessa Chisolm and Rachel Kingston, who laid the foundation for my movement as a dancer and played a major role in shaping my early training. Finally, to my family and all my close friends and fellow dancers — thank you for always encouraging me to keep moving, to stand tall, and to never doubt my worth in any space I walk into.
