Meet Kiara Potts | Resume Writer & Career Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Potts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Surprisingly enough, there was no major thought process behind starting my business. When I initially began, the services I provided were free. Not only were the services free, they were only available to friends and family. As I became more skilled, more experienced, and saw an influx of clients, I began to charge for my services. I did not ‘officially’ accept clients until I had the general processes and procedures in line. As my business grew, I grew and updated my pricing, packages, and processes. I learned a lot of what did and did not work along the way and made changes accordingly. The start of my business fulfilled an unspoken need to those seeking to grow within their careers.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I pride myself in making each experience personalized for all of my clients. In understanding that there is no one size fits all approach to resumes, I ensure my clients have a full understanding of what they are investing in and how we will utilize their skillset to enhance what is presented on paper. I find that going the extra mile to educate my clients helps overcome any doubts or challenges that may arise.
The lessons that I’ve learned along the way simply involve handling each client on a case by case basis. The approach I take with one client may not work for another. I had to learn flexibility for the overall betterment of my business and my customer experiences.
In terms of me, my brand, and my story, I want the world to know that one of the greatest investments that you can make is investing into yourself. It’s important to bet on you and not just those around you or even those that you admire. You can make the necessary investments into you and in that place you are able to fully see the fruits of your labor. It is truly life changing when you root for you how you root for others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my, I can’t say I’d have a full itinerary for the week but one of my favorite places to eat is currently The Real Milk and Honey ATL. I’ve visited that place several times and everything is always amazing. The food is always perfect and consistent and the service is very fast. I would also visit a few hiking spots because it is absolutely one of my favorite things to do. I find so much calmness in nature. Outside of those things, we’d really just read reviews and find new places to visit and new areas to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe all of those who have trusted and believe in me deserve much credit and recognition in my story. I takes an insane amount of trust to place your career into someone else’s hands, especially a stranger, and each client that I’ve had did just that. My friends and family also deserve high recognition as each and every one of them have supported me on my journey thus far.
