We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my path has taught me is that it isn’t a linear thing. It’s a roller coaster baby! I feel like my first year went great and I was running instead of walking but now on my second year in things have slowed down a lot! I’m not even mad at it tho. Life has been lifing lol and I can’t pour from an empty cup. I’ll bounce back because style is who I am not a facade for Instagram.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart is my heart for the craft. I mean anyone can say that but I truly know I have an eye for fashion naturally. I love vintage pieces and I pick the fire pieces ok! I see them as investment pieces and art than anything else. My journey has not been easy being a new Mom and all. Being on set with a baby haggling my stuff around with a stroller and my wardrobe. That takes heart! Sometimes we’ll a lot of the times I’ve had to pull things out of my ass (sorry for cursing lol) but seriously! There would be no budget no nothing and three days to get it done and guess what it gets done! I’ve been blessed with a community of people that are down to help and that wanna see me win and vice versa. That’s community right there! Brb, crying.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So first of all before we do the fancy places I’m definitely taking you to the mom and pop shops! Those are my favorite. I’m from Washington heights so I love the street vendors. From the morrir soñando guy on 175th to the lady that sells habichuela con dulce on 182 to the Luisa and her chimis in front of my moms building! I love giving them my money! There’s also this guy that makes the best pastel en hojas on 181 and Broadway. Like the authentic shit! I’ve been looking for him all summer and today I finally caught him! It was soooo worth waiting for and it made my whole day. We definitely eating uptown. I got us!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely have to thank the strangers that I’ve meet in the past year or two. My biggest supporters have been people I don’t know but are now some of my closest friends. They are moms like me who also do creative things of all aspects as well as non moms. Gen, Paloma, Bonz my friend Kemi… the list goes on. We all show up and show out for each other in anyway we can and that’s LOVE!
