Meet Kiara Barnes: Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiara, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
By the end of my career, I will still be directing film and television. However, I will also own and operate my production stages, hosting studios telling unique and diverse stories.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a film director based in Atlanta, Georgia, and also Los Angeles, California. I am most proud of the short film I Directed and co-produced called Break. I am most excited about my next film (currently in pre-production), Black Girls and Fairytales, in which I will be co-Producing and co-Directing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My top places to hang out in the city are Zocalo – Best Margaritas in Midtown! Therapy Lounge – is a hidden gem! The best hookah and coffee shop in the town. Where else can you go and do work, smoke hookah, grab a coffee or alcoholic beverage? If you want a grown and sexy vibe, Fellaship is the place to go. They have great food, incredible drinks, and a variety of cigars!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a special shoutout to my sister Katura Barnes. Since I was a child, she has always been my biggest cheerleader! On my darkest days, she is my light of hope, If it weren’t for her, I would have probably given up by now, but she always knows the right thing to say to lift my spirits and keep me on track.
