We had the good fortune of connecting with Kianna McCurdy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kianna, how do you think about risk?
I know risk all to well me actually moving to 3 different states from my home town Detroit, Michigan to Indianapolis and now to Atlanta. I believe that risk are needed to push u to get where you need to be in life. Since being in Atlanta it has proved to be worth the risk. Thus far I’ve done Kash Doll, Ming Lee along with Ms. Bling Miami which has proven that the risk has been well worth it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Nail tech and recently became owner to Nails By Kianna LLC. -What sets me apart is that ima person that goes after what I want and have the mind set that I will do it. Literally every goal I’ve set for myself I’m conquering and still pursuing goals as we speak. I’m just a person who never gives up.
-I think the most thing I’m proud of is becoming my own boss and a mother. Both were very exciting and full blessings.
-I got to where I am today by continuing to grow and learn the industry. I literally worked in shops pretty much my whole career until the pandemic when I stepped out on faith. Many people will think outta all times why the pandemic but in my mind ,body and spirit I felt that it was my time to do things different. During this time I just had my 2nd baby so I was really going back and forth about is it the right time but GOD had other plans.
-it was by far the scariest time for me because things were so uncertain. I was a new mother again and I knew I couldn’t go back to work because the world got shut down. The journey was not easy at all but I didn’t quit i knew in my heart that I was going to be fine and it’ll work itself out and it did.
-I overcame this journey by just giving my all into becoming a business owner and a mother gave me all the fuel needed to push through.
-I’ve learned that in this business you will have to put in hard work and to use your gift to the fullest. Most of my nail career I’ve worked in salons many of them were Asian salons. They were challenges because I would literally be the only black girl in the salon but I would study how they worked and they always had a system with everything they did but most importantly they worked together as a team. I also had some issues with some of the people I worked for being upset that I had so many clients.
-I want people to know that in life it does come with many challenges but the most important thing is to always believe in yourself no matter what anyone says or feel about you. I’ve come a long way and so very blessed for every blessing and lesson. They both helped me learn and grow to the person I’m becoming today. I still have goals that I’m working on. The most important thing is that you see the growth and once you see the growth the success will follow. Nails By Kianna LLC. Was built off of hard work and dedication, everything I’ve went through to get where I am now was the start of my brand, I am my Brand and I’m in the phase of my life where I work smarter not harder. I’ve been doing nails since I was 12 years old (20 years) I’ll be 32 this year and when I look back at where I came from it literally brings tears to my eyes, although it has not been easy it’s been well worth it. My most important lesson is to not give up on myself or my dreams!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to visit we would definitely go to Spice House. I love this place it laid back great music and entertainment depending what night you go on. The drink are really good as well. I also would go to jeju this place is so bomb considering I’m a mom of 2 toddlers 4 and 2. You will be so relaxed and occupied the whole time. It’s a 10/10 experience.
