We had the good fortune of connecting with Kia Perry and Jazlin Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kia & Jazlin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Trust your intuition. Whenever something doesn’t feel right or doesn’t happen effortlessly, that’s a key indicator that it’s not meant for us. We can’t tell you how many decisions we’ve made based on our gut feeling and it turned out to be the right decision!
What should our readers know about your business?
HERMARKET is a community and marketplace for woman-owned brands. We curate opportunities and experiences for then to be discovered and supported. When we first started there wasn’t a marketplace specifically for women-owned indie brands and we provided that space and from there have continued to create these spaces for them to thrive and connect with shoppers. Currently we’re partnering with the only luxury shopping district in the southeast on a monthly market which allows us to provide an opportunity for these smaller, mostly minority brands to sell their products in a luxury market, which we think is huge! Honestly, when we started HERMARKET, we didn’t think it would get as big as it is as fast as it has. We have an amazingly supportive community that has contributed to making HERMARKET what it is. The journey of course hasn’t been easy especially with the pandemic but it’s helped us to zero in on who we need to be for the people we serve. Pivoting has been key in our survival and success. We’ve learned so much but there are some that come top of mind. As co-founders, we realize it’s important to protect your partnership and be selective with who you let into your space. It’s your vision. Be careful who you share it with because there will be people who don’t see it or believe in it like you do. Don’t let them discourage or make you doubt what was given to you. Lastly, none of us know what we’re doing, We’re just along for the ride, so just trust yourself and you’ll fine.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
