We had the good fortune of connecting with Keya Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to work for myself, and have my own business because I felt the creative side of me needed to have my own platform, and do the things I wanted to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud owner of Bella Buttafly LLC, Buttafly Kisses Body Essentials, and 3 SWAG non profit organization. I have been the owner of a trucking business for 4 years now, and “life ain’t been no crystal stairs” lol, but being in this business has taught me so much. And one of the biggest things I must say is it has taught me to have even more patience than I already had. ‘Buttafly Kisses” is my baby, it is my motivation, it is baby that birthed just not in the maternal way (lol). But she is 6 years of age, and I am super excited about her. Buttafly Kisses Body Essentials are products that I handmake for the body. My products include: Body Butters, Body Scrubs, Soaps, Body oil mist, Facial mist, Detox Soaks, Beard oils, and Beard Balms. I got to the place where I am because I chose to not give up, and I wanted more for myself. I’m not done, and I am far from where I want my businesses to be, but the great part is I’m on the path of getting there. I’m taking classes, seminars, learning from others to become even better with my businesses. My biggest hope is to leave a legacy behind for my grandkids. If I had to tell the world, or if I wanted the world to know about my business, I would tell them more about ” Buttafly Kisses Body Essentials” and that reason being because I get so excited making body products for clients, creating scents, and just knowing that my products are doing justice for someone’s skin, whether it’s helping with eczema, dry skin, exfoliating the skin, or just knowing they love the scents of my products. I get all giddy inside just speaking about Buttafly Kisses.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If things were back to normal and I had to show my friend a great time we would do a few things that I love and I think are fun and exciting. We would attend “Painting with a twist” “The Southern Gentlemen restaurant” “Negrill Village restaurant” “Coctails at the Red Phone Booth” “Spoken Word at the Urban Grind”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout will go towards my husband first, who is super supportive in what I am doing, who is also my business partner. He pushed me in those times when I felt like giving up. I call him my GAH. (God Appointed Husband). My shoutout also goes to my granddaughter who’s a little Entrepreneur herself, she motivates me with our conversations. My clients, who believes in my craft, and has invested in me since 2014. I love the stories and feedback they give me, when using my products. Last but certainly not my family and friends that supports my business, and encourages me to keep going. I give praise to the most high (God) for the progress and the process of this journey I am on.
