We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
A lot of pieces I do are old pieces of furniture that would normally be found in a landfill or dump. So recycling is good for the planet.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never knew I would have a career in the creative world. 2001-20013 I owned an electrical company. Due to stressful circumstances we closed, and after laying people off and dealing with the IRS I literally snapped. 2013 was a hard year for me. Lots of therapy, soul searching and life restructuring I stumbled upon upholstery. 2014 I got a job in Charlotte and at the same time I found a place in NC to apprentice and learn more about the craft. I never intended for it to become a business I just needed the distraction to keep my mind occupied and keep me alive. I posted a chair on social media and someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse at the time. Posted a second chair that gained interest and eventually sold. 2016 I moved back to Atlanta and had opened a small retail location. I was overwhelmed how things were selling, but that’s when I really got my confidence to keep building my company. I literally got into furniture to just stay alive and the blessings and doors it’s opened for me is only a story Allah could write.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best friend comes to town we keep the turn up simple. Dugans for wings because it’s just old school Atlanta. High Museum if they got something cool happening. Lenox just to people watch and laugh. Dinner and cigars at Dantannas, not many know they got a back room to smoke and eat. Whiskey and another stick at Highland Cigar and then wrap up the night at Pin Ups. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All my design friends in Charlotte where I learned and honed my skills. Black Male Interior Designers and Heather Cross who is always pushing me when I’m ready to just take a break and stop pushing. Danielle Jackson who talked me into doing pillows when I never wanted to.
