We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve had to make in my industry was knowing when to release a person from my inner circle that only wanted to ride the wave of my success. There’s nothing wrong with gleaning and getting ideas from someone who is successful, But you must ask God to reveal the direction that he wants for your brand. What they failed to realize is that God had approved a specific plan for me that will only work for me. It’s like taking a prescribed medicine, the medicine has my name on it and it is designed for my specific needs. I had to realize and be comfortable knowing that in my journey, I am the one that has endured the many years of waiting for my turn to finally happen. I am the one that has been sitting on the backside of the desert waiting for someone to see what I have to offer. I am the one that has gone through the crushing process of God to produce this anointed oil to bless his people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Not only am I an author, I am a singer as well. What sets me apart from others is the anointing that rest upon my life. I feel I have been given an assignment to encourage the world with my voice. I am most proud of the many things I have accomplished musically such as releasing my first full CD in 2006 “The Favor Of God” and then after a long hiatus releasing new music in 2020 “Great God” & “For My Good”. In 2019 I had the opportunity to go on a three week tour in Italy and Switzerland. My journey has not been easy. I have wanted to give up so many times and never try it again, but something on the inside would always say, try it one more time. I finally realized the other attempts were simply not in my season. I have learned to never give up on your dreams and to Do It Afraid! I want the world to know that it has been a rocky road for me to get here, but I am here ready to encourage the world with my many gifts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out to everyone who has purchased my book that gave me such great reviews. I want to shout out the students at my school who weekly checkout my book and have used it to do book reports. I want to shout out to my teacher Sabra Shores who saw a gift inside me and pushed me to do it afraid. I want to thank my mom Dollie Edwards for always supporting me and giving me the encouragement I need. Lastly, I want to thank my heavenly father for giving me my turn to shine like a diamond for him.
