Meet Kevin Clark | Your personal Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, how do you define success?
When I first contemplated the idea of starting my own business, I knew I wanted it to be centered around the art of cooking. Cooking has been a cherished tradition in my family for generations. I can still vividly recall being 9-years-old, nervously igniting a stove. My mom and aunts imparted the secrets of flavor, teaching me how to get the maximum taste from using minimal ingredients. My father, on the other hand, was my mentor in the fine art of grilling, and the memories of sizzling BBQs with him hold a special place in my heart. One invaluable lesson they both instilled in me was the importance of always preparing enough to accommodate unexpected guests. It was through these experiences that I not only learned to cook for myself but also to master the art of cooking for others. It’s from these roots that the inspiration for KevCooks4U was born.
The essence of my business is deeply rooted in connecting with people. Just like planting a seed within someone – whether it’s an idea, a feeling, or, in my case, the joy of savoring delicious food – it manifests ‘manifests into something better.’ I understand that this transformation occurs gradually, much like building a structure brick by brick or, in my case, forging connections person by person.
I believe that the way your day begins, and ends is intrinsically linked to what you nourish your body with. That’s why I’ve chosen to contribute by creating dishes that not only taste incredible but also leave your stomach and spirit feeling content. It’s about more than just food; it’s about seeing the joy on my customers faces after they’ve tasted a meal prepared by me, Kev.
My willingness to embrace risks is deeply intertwined with my faith in God. Over the years, I’ve engaged in soulful dialogues with Him, seeking clarity on my desires, needs, and my life’s purpose. Each time I feel God’s guidance or receive His affirmation, the perceived risks become steppingstones on a divinely ordained path. However, this spiritual journey is not without its complexities. There are moments when challenges seemingly overshadow previous divine confirmations. Yet, through it all, I remain anchored in my belief in the ultimate vision and promise of what my business represents and is destined to become.
One important thing I’ve taught my son is how to handle life’s ups and downs. I’ve encouraged him to stick to his beliefs and stay true to himself, even when the world tries to change him. Sometimes, the world’s lessons are useful, and he should take heed of them. Other times, it’s best to trust his own judgment. Equally significant is the skill of discernment, especially when confronted with intricate decisions. These teachings are not just about surviving; they are about thriving and finding one’s way in a complex world.
The key to my success lies in leaving a lasting legacy that endures long after I’m gone. With my brand, I aspire to create a legacy that benefits my son, family, and friends, something that continues to provide for generations to come.
I don’t think there is a time to just give up. I only see it as a time to change direction. Giving up all together is not even an option. To keep going is the only thing I know to do, so that answers that lol.
I firmly believe there’s never a moment to surrender; instead, it’s an opportunity to shift direction. Giving up entirely is not an option. The only path I recognize is to persist and keep moving forward—so that answers that! Lol!
Before launching my business, my work-life balance was in shambles. I spent most of the week juggling a full-time job and a part-time job. The ultimate objective is for KevCooks4U to become my main source of income. Currently, it serves as a supplementary income, but it has already granted me the precious gift of spending more time at home with my family.
Some people might not understand, but it genuinely brings me joy to witness the happiness of others. While I have my own sources of happiness and things that make me smile, there’s something profoundly fulfilling about seeing a genuine smile on someone else’s face and knowing that I played a part in creating it. Why? Well, I can’t explain it precisely. I just have this strong sense that my purpose on this earth is to serve in any way I can.
I chose a creative career path because I find that I can truly express my authentic self through creativity. I believe that as individuals, we are inherently designed to create in various forms. Moreover, I hold the belief that one’s true purpose is only fulfilled when they leave something behind. In my case, with cooking, it’s the creation of recipes. These recipes stand as enduring creations, and the satisfaction they bring is both permanent and everlasting.
I define success in the simplest terms: it’s about accomplishing what you set out to do. For me, it’s not tied to money or fame. Success is achieving a specific goal or desired outcome. Money and fame can be attained even through failures or negative attention. I wouldn’t want to achieve recognition for serving bad food. Lol! My true passion lies in service itself, in genuinely meeting people’s needs and making a positive impact on their lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well primarily I’m a full-time firefighter for the city of College Park, GA. I think one of the trademarks of being of firefighter is knowing how to cook. For me, it further pushes the idea that I’m here to serve my community. I also use alot of my co-workers as guniea pigs to taste test various dishes. How did i get to this point professionally? I think my motivation to serve and provide took the lead in how i got to this point. It wasn’t easy. Staying focused on the bigger picture and keeping my eyes on the ultimate prize of leaving a legacy behind for years to come is my drive. In building a business or a brand I learned that sometimes the slow process may be the necessary process. I try not to skip over the essential steps or rush things. I take each day and each customer as a learning process. The “brick by brick” strategy not only affords me to have a steady and manageable process, but it also contributes to the brand having a solid foundation. In the end. I want the world to know that KevCooks4U puts out solid products at reasonable costs. The food is made with love and the food will leave an impact once it hits your tastebuds!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area. I would probably take them out to the country part of GA, I like adventerous activities like amusement parks, gokarts, ATVs, boating, etc. We’d start off by grabing wings and drinks at the closest Taco Mac. We’d then head to Durahm Town and ride ATVs for a half day. Afterwards we’d hit up one of the hole in the wall spots for dinner. Then I would call up one of my cousins to see what they are doing for the evening. Whether it’s playing cards, a cookout, a gathering, or whatever, I’d seek to get out with family. Atlanta has a nightlife aspect to explore but we’ll save that for another interview lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I like to first thank my Mother Carlene Ridley, my late Father Jerry Clark, my Son Kyrie, my wife Lashonda Hall-Clark, all of my family, friends, coworkers, anybody who has supported me and the brand and God himself.
