We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Bouknight II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One guiding principle that has shaped my life: “The world is a book and those who don’t travel read only a page,” became a mantra during my high school years, resonating deeply in a humanities class. At a pivotal moment in my high school journey, a teacher I respected suggested rethinking my college choices, citing concerns about my qualifications. This advice, coming from someone who prominently displayed this very quote in their classroom, initially caught me off guard. It was a paradox – the embodiment of this empowering quote conflicted with the discouragement I encountered. Rather than succumbing to the absence of support, I seized the essence of the quote itself. For me, it symbolizes the imperative of embracing risks and venturing beyond comfort zones in life’s different phases. Allowing complacency would mean leaving the subsequent pages of life’s book blank. This experience taught me to embrace challenges and uncertainties, understanding that growth lies beyond familiarity and comfort.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I near the third anniversary of rebranding my art into Clothed Minded Lou, I find myself reflecting on the journey that led me here. It wasn’t just about making bowties anymore; it was about soul-searching, researching, and envisioning what I wanted this transformation to represent. It wasn’t easy—I’ve learned that success demands hard work. But what truly made a difference was stepping back to truly understand what my audience wanted. Their voices now echo through every piece I create, driving my passion and keeping me inspired. This shift, taking charge of my brand, has unexpectedly become the most fulfilling and empowering aspect of my life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a spontaneous person. I love being adventurous and going on random excursions that require little planning. Whether it’s grabbing food from a local spot, listening to music, browsing a nearby museum, or even getting in the car and driving to an unplanned destination, these experiences are the most exhilarating for me. One thing’s for sure and two things are certain: whatever we do will revolve around the arts, food, and adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Looking back on my journey today, I want to give recognition to those who might not have been fully behind the steps and hard work I’ve put in to reach where I stand. Psalm 110: 1-2 holds a special significance for me: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, Rule in the midst of your enemies!” By keeping God at the core of my accomplishments, I’ve discovered the power of letting life handle those who spread negativity or lack support. This verse is a reminder that God’s peace triumphs over any scheme from those against me.
