We had the good fortune of connecting with Kesha Bland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kesha, what’s your definition for success?
Success to me is satisfying the customer’s needs and building that relationship. To have so many returning customers and new referrals bring me joy because that affirms that I’m not only putting our quality jeweler, but providing exceptional customer service.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
KWcollections is a luxury jewelry brand that started many years back with handmade beaded bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, hence the slogan “hand made with love.” This was a time before Instagram or social media in general, was what it is today so the pieces were very unique and kind of on-request. I’m most proud of the progress that I’ve made with my brand and the consumer relationships that it has allowed me to build. KWcollections has become a go-to jewelry brand for a lot of people and it warms my heart to see them shining like a diamond, affordably. The compliments on the quality and how the customers feel when they wear my pieces keep me motivated, it really means a lot to me. The special thing about KWcollections is that we grow with our customers and we are not afraid to tailor our brand to fit trends without diminishing our unique value. That made the transition a lot easier because the customers were able to share with me the pieces that they wanted to see from KW. While we love the work we did in the past, the jewelry industry has changed drastically, so the beaded trend that was very popular at one point has changed to rope necklaces, custom name rings, earrings, and necklaces to list a few. Also, the demand for accessories is much higher, so you can imagine how tough it became to produce handmade pieces. I started researching vendors and trying different pieces that provided the same luxury feel as high-end jewelry, for a more affordable price. Having the option to customize the trendy pieces by adding a name or initial is another quality that sets us apart. The biggest and probably only struggle for me as a business owner was the time it took to run the business while working a full-time job. I overcame this by going part-time and balancing out my schedule so that I am able to focus and attend the pop-up shops, as well as other events. I do my best to accommodate orders or special requests for holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries, which also helps the consumer relationships. I really want people to have a personal connection with the brand, so it’s important for me to show face and meet some of my supporters
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm, this is right up my alley lol. To start the day I would suggest breakfast or brunch, Breakfast at Barney’s is my top pick. If my bestie is too busy partying from the night before and wakes up just in time for lunch, Ruscello’s in Nordstrom at Perimeter is the place, There are a lot of amazing dinner spots here in Atlanta, Kevin Rathbun, Rays on The River, Nan Thai and C&S Oyster Bar are some of my favorites. Now for the turn-up, I’m into a more laid-back vibe any place with some music, hookah, and good drinks, hookah is a must. There are 592 Lounge, Divine, and Sudos are a few that are honorable mentions. Now to wind down after eating good and turning up, you can end the trip with a good spa date at my favorite place, Treat Your Feet or Spa Land & Sauna.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for making all of this possible and for blessing me with an amazing team. I love my team as well as anyone who has lent a helping hand. I want to specifically acknowledge Kamille Miller, a special gem to the KWcollections brand. Kamille runs the majority of the Pop-Up shops and if she isn’t tackling it solo she’s assisting me when I’m able to be there, so thank you I really appreciate you. I have to thank my supporters, whether it’s a repost or sale it means a lot to me. They make what I do possible and motivate me to continue on when entrepreneurship feels like a struggle. Also, I have to give a shoutout to my vendors. They keep my brand updated with the latest and quality pieces. If there is ever anything that I am looking for or need, the assistance and support are there. It’s not just a business relationship we’ve built a genuine bond. The list goes on, family and friends of course. They provide feedback on my products and marketing, as well as keep me hip on the latest jewelry trends. Thank you to my friends, Daquanna Simmons and Jamisha Williams of iHeart Fashion Boutique, I really appreciate the love and the referral. I hope I’m not leaving anyone out, I appreciate everyone that has ever shopped, commented/reposted, or simply acknowledged KWcollections, thank you all.
