We had the good fortune of connecting with Kepler Beats and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kepler, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Giving up sounds like such a harsh term. Any time I’m asked “do you ever think of giving up music?” I have never once said yes. But giving up and making a pivot are two entirely different things. Creatives never stop creating, the capacity in which it happens just changes. I’ve made the switch from becoming a recording engineer, to a music producer, to a sync composer, but I never felt like I’ve given up. When it comes to creativity, you have to follow what excites you. If what you’re doing no longer gives you joy, then what’s the point in doing it? The best way to determine whether you should pivot or “give up” is to reflect on what really brings you joy when you create. Sometimes creating can be exhausting, but if you know that pushing through the exhaustion will bring you to where you want to be, it’s always worth it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out as a simple beat-maker. I would sit down after school and make two or three beats a day. I pulled inspiration from people, paintings, landscapes, anything that made me wonder how it would feel to make someone feel what I was seeing. As I continued on my journey, I started producing for songwriters and artists; making demos and releasing songs on DSP’s. After years of doing that I started to compose music for sync. I’ve always gravitated towards simple and ambient sounds in my production, trying to create soundscapes that you don’t hear in the traditional Top 40 on the charts. The biggest struggle was finding other artists whose visions collided with what I like to make. After years of learning, adapting, and creating, I’ve been able to collaborate with a great circle of artists and make great music outside of the norm.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lifting Noodles is an awesome ramen spot to hit for some relatively well priced food. The vibe is nice and the food is great!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is dedicated to my closest friend and my significant other. Having close relationships around you is one of the most important things in life. These people have brought me up when I was down, motivated me to push through the excess noise, and been there for me in my important moments.
