We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenyetta Cheatum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenyetta, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own job was to start something in which would help the Youth of the community. I knew for a fact that it would not be easy because there are so many other organizations out here within the local community however doing different things within their organization or brand. My thought process was written down as a vision and I just made the steps in order to be successful.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a mental program this like many others. I tried to help within my local community to give back as much as I can. I started this journey in 2014 having a fashion show to build self-confidence in youth and to promote against bullying awareness. The thing that I am most excited about is being able to see the smiles on the you face knowing that they can be different from others and they can also have a life that they dream of. I love to help them understand that no matter who they are they are still amazing. I did a lot of footwork in the community to get where I am today basically I will attend schools to let them know that they have a mental program within their local community to help them deal with self-confidence and bullying issues. I use social media to promote my platform and business. It has not been easy within my mentoring program because the lack of resources and or funding. However I do try to come up with different fundraisers to help with my mental program and to give back locally. I am not what I want to be right now as far as my mentoring program but I look forward to overcoming my challenges financially to be able to open up a youth program within my local community. Within my program I will offer after school and summer school projects.
The many lessons that I learned along the way was to never give up on your dreams and goals. Work hard in order to get or be successful within your goals and dreams.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s not easy when you are trying to accomplish a goal or dream but at the same time you have to be focused and determined no matter the obstacles. My mentor program is one that inspires me as well. Just to hear the Young people talk about certain issues and be able to address them and put a smile on their face it’s so amazing. We all have a insecurity about ourselves but we will be surprised at how helping others will help us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the city of Tuscaloosa there are so many historical sites here. Capital part is a great site in which you can go down to take pictures and have the lovely view and walk around as well as the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk. There are so many things that they have built for families to go and enjoy the outside Life along the river. There is a place called University boulevard and the strip in which I will take them to eat and have a good time to go out and dance especially doing football season roll tide. There are also many old mansions that has old furniture in collections in them downtown Tuscaloosa area which is amazing to check out. I will also take them to the Alabama Crimson Tide football stadium and University where many of the games are played.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my sister and friend Scheronda Thompson of The Curvy Diva. This young lady was the reason back in 2014 that I started my journey into modeling and pageantry. She saw something in me to push me out of my comfort zone. Scheronda gave me idea that help me to establish my platform and my mentoring program.
