We had the good fortune of connecting with Kentrice Schexnayder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kentrice, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Most Outsiders are unaware of the process of creating the work and the amount of time it takes to create specific pieces also how costly it is.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Art is always very vibrant, Big, Bold and a lot of times 3 dimensional, Large canvas or walls. I like to include imagery of parts of me that people don’t know about me personally in each piece of work I create. my work appears straight to the point but I’m actually telling my viewers a little bit about who I am in each piece.

What sets me apart from others, is my ability to create exactly what I envision or my clients envision in the most clean yet fun and colorful way. My ability to mix colors and blend them together is a skill that I pride myself for along with my creative ideas.

To get to where I am today I had a lot of help from friends and clients who are social media personalities like SUPA Cent, Donovan (shoosh), Greg the owner of (We Dats) and a host of others that were pleased with the jobs I was doing for them and made sure that people knew about it. Everything was really word of mouth and of course the work spoke for itself.

It was not easy at all because I was New to the entrepreneur life and had already quit my 9 to 5 so trying to get clients to understand the price and process of a project was hard when I’d only had little to show.

most people like art but don’t know the true value of it so they are not quick to pay what it’s actually worth and I started out working for a bunch of small businesses who were already stretched thin on capital so I had to do a lot of the work alone without getting paid much at all.

There were times I only made enough money to buy more supplies for the next project. I ate at my moms house and at my clients and friends restaurant’s for free at times.

I Eventually started to attract more clients who were more familiar with my industry and understood the monetary value that should be placed on work from an artist with my kind of skill set, so that helped me a lot because I actually was able to charge a lot more and began to see profits
That led me to investing in my commercial and residential painting company.

The lessons I’ve learned is that, it’s ok to charge what you feel it’s worth without the fear of losing a client it actually makes them value the product/service more and saves you time.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Always keep beating the pavement no matter how far you think you’ve gotten and Most Importantly not to be available to everyone and be selective with who you work with and for. No matter how beneficial it may appear.

What I want the world to know about me and My Brand is that. Everything you see is a result of me answering my divine calling so anything I create comes from a place of love and gratitude for my passion and talents. What brings me the most joy is when people are moved by my creations. I stand on Never giving up no matter how hard it gets and believing that all things are possible. The plans for my brand moving forward is to expand my presence in the gallery and digital world and Mural courses for all ages.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love nature so definitely going out to the mountain or taking a nature walk or winery

I love midtown and peters street

As far as food I’m a real New Orleans girl so I visit a lot of places where I can get seafood and soul food. Like
Suit lounge, Breakfast at Barney’s, Cheeba hut for a quick sub. I eat fiery crab a lot.

Still exploring everyday also.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
