We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Wynn-Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kennedy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a visual artist, it affords me the unique opportunity to engage with community members to assist them in identifying possibilities.

I work with business owners by bartering their services in exchange for my photography services to increase marketing for not only my business but also theirs. When we all work together, we all win. Building relationships will build revenue for everyone.

I take all photography opportunities with clients to help build self-confidence with them. I have boudoir photoshoot experiences that embodies sexiness. Whether my client is a petite 115 lbs. or 350 lbs., the environment that I create is relaxing and comforting. The sessions leave the client empowered to achieve success. With confident business community members, you assist in their personal and business success which translates to community success.

As a photographer, I partner with other organizations in the community to give back. During prom session, I partner with make up artist, hair stylist and nail stylist, limousine services, formal gown designers, eyelash technicians, restaurants and florist to give at least three girls in the community, with limited financial access, the experience of their lifetime for their senior year.

During Easter and Halloween, I partner with for-profit and nonprofit organizations in the community to create events that give back to the youth in the community. Baskets with toys and candy are given out as well as food items. I capture these moments with my camera equipment to show “just what’s right” with our community on the social media platforms.

During the winter months, my large network of small businesses comes together to collect and distribute coats, socks, and gloves for the homeless community.

Monthly, I bring together a group of small business female professionals to have “A Brunch With Bosses”. We relax and release the stresses of both our business life as well as our personal life. This time together gives each of us a “safe space” to release some stress. Also, it gives us the opportunity to brainstorm on ideas to improve our individual businesses. Whether it is tax preparation, legal issues, payroll completion, marketing, time management, scheduling, etc. We capitalize on the other person’s strength and maximize knowledge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I received my camera as a graduation gift from my mother when I obtained my BSW from THE University of Alabama. She said she saw “my eye” when I would take pictures with my cellphone.

From that very day, I started my business. I have had some coaching from other professionals but most of what others see is raw talent. One opportunity that I am most proud of is obtaining my first teaching job as a Digital Design Instructor. The principal at a local high school contacted me via social media. She stated that she had seen some of my photography work and was really impressed with my vision. She offered me the job from my social media exposure. I worked with high school students for a year in that capacity. We covered things such as lighting, special effects, brochure design, flyer designs, business proposals, photo editing, and so much more. The arts is a way to help individuals relieve stress and frustration. These classes was able to do that for these children in this urban environment.

This journey has not been easy. I have lost sleep, money and friendships to build my brand. What I have gained in relationship building has been priceless.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It depends on the time of year but these are some places we would go:

Birmingham Museum of Arts
Vulcan Park and Museum
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Birmingham Civil Rights Institute
Regions Park to see a Baron’s Baseball Game
THE University of Alabama for a Football Game
Legacy Arena – Birmingham Squadron
Sunday’s – Baddies Do Brunch – Plush Sports Bar and Grill
Perry’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar
Oceans Seafood
Michael’s
Bricktops
Gianmarco’s Restaurant

Shopping in the Summit 280

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to start by thanking the one above. No matter how many times I want to give up He keeps me going. Every time I think I cannot He shows me I can. I want to send a huge shout out to my mom . She is my number #1 fan . Without her, none of this would be possible. She has always seen my potential even when I could not see it in myself.

Also, I want to say thank you to my boyfriend. Thank you bae for being behind the scenes and putting up with the brat that comes with the business.
Lastly, I want to shout out my friends, family and clients. Without you all, There would not be a Kamera Girl / KweenKayyySnapped.
