Meet Kennedy Price | Filmmaker & Scriptwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedy, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the film industry that outsiders don’t know about is just how much commitment it takes to see a project through from start to finish. It’s a wild ride that demands constant energy and the ability to adapt when unexpected problems pop up—way tougher than I ever thought it would be. Along the way, I faced a bunch of challenges that really tested my determination and creativity. But even with all the time it took, the whole experience turned out to be very eye-opening for me. It’s definitely one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my creative career so far, and it totally changed how I see the art of storytelling in ways I never expected.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been into filmmaking and writing scripts since I was a kid. Before I was 10, I would make videos of my sister and me using a LeapPad. I even set up my tablet to film myself talking about random stuff, kind of like hosting my own podcast. In middle school, I got my hands on some cameras after I found out my school had filmmaking classes. Thinking back, those times when I tried to do stop motion videos and created little stories to film on my tablet were really the start of my journey as a filmmaker.
What makes me different is my commitment to getting better at my craft and telling great stories. One of my biggest wins was the film I made with the talented women at Black Girls Film Camp. They helped me share my story and make my film a reality. Even though the road to where I am now had its bumps, I got through it all with the support of Black Girls Film Camp, my team, and my family.
I’ve learned a lot on this journey, like how important it is to keep pushing through, even when things get tough. There’s usually a way to move forward if you look for it. I’ve also figured out that having backup plans is essential when things don’t go as planned.
I really want to use my platform and brand to tell untold stories and help people become more aware and educated about important issues.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting New Jersey, I’d definitely take her to one of my favorite breakfast spots, the Brownstone Pancake Factory in Freehold. They’ve got a huge menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love their Fried Oreo Cheesecake Pancakes!
Another awesome spot is Tops Diner in East Newark. Their menu is diverse, with everything from seafood to chicken and steak. Since New Jersey is considered the diner capital of the world, these spots would be great for a first-time visitor.
Then we’d hit up the Atlantic City Boardwalk since it’s the longest boardwalk in the world. It’s a blast there with so many things to see and do. I would take them to one of my Atlantic City favorites, Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, for a delicious meal. We also have to check out Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton. It’s this cool outdoor park with a bunch of amazing, larger-than-life art installations.
And if we just want to chill, I’d take her to the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford. It’s got tons of shops and activities, an indoor Nickelodeon theme park, and even a DreamWorks water park!
If she’s up for some sun and sand, we could also hit one of the awesome Jersey Shore beaches, like Wildwood, Belmar, or Point Pleasant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I just want to take a moment to give a huge shoutout to some amazing people who’ve been a big part of my journey as a filmmaker. First, the team at Black Girls Film Camp has been incredible. Their support and guidance have been key in making my filmmaking career in the production of my film, Sticks and Stones. From brainstorming ideas to the final edits, they’ve been there for me the whole time, guiding me and sharing their knowledge about filmmaking.
Through Black Girls Film Camp, I connected with industry professionals and other aspiring filmmakers, which led to some meaningful conversations that really expanded my understanding of the field. The advice and different perspectives I picked up have been super empowering. Plus, I was blessed to have a team that’s just as passionate about my film. My Production Coach, Editor, Alumni Coach, Cinematographer, and everyone else involved really helped bring my story to life in ways I never imagined.
I also need to give a huge shoutout to my family, who have always been my biggest cheerleaders. Their belief in my dreams and constant encouragement has made such a difference during the tough moments of making this film. Whether it was offering comforting words or just being there to listen, they’ve given me the strength and confidence to chase my passion. I’m really grateful for their love and support as I keep moving forward on this exciting journey!
