Meet Kenjah | Singer, Songwriter & Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenjah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenjah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career in the entertainment industry because from a young age, the arts excited me. The more I was influenced by famous amazing artists and creators like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Brandy, Will Smith, Jamie Fox and many others, the more I grew a strong passion for singing, story-telling and creating art to inspire and entertain. I fell in love with the process and results of externalizing my creative ideas. Over time I realized that if I can’t express myself creatively everyday, I wasn’t living a fulfilling life. Knowing that sharing my talents with the world inspires and entertains others makes me feel like I’m truly living.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started pursuing this career professionally at 13 years old, but faced a lot of rejection. My family and I knew it wasn’t due to a lack of talent, but wasn’t the right time. After college, I moved to Maryland and realized that I wasn’t living the purposeful fulfilling life that I’ve always envisioned. I stayed in my comfort zone not pursuing many creative opportunities because I was paralyzed by all the rejection that I faced years prior. I started to experience days of depression often because I was disappointed at the life I chose and was living my greatest fear of living a purposeless life. This caused me to learn that to have the life I wanted, I had to be intentional about every choice that I make. I had to have unwavering faith that this career is my calling in life. Faith led me to take risks that I would be proud of because no matter what happens, I would always think that they were worth it.
With faith, I quit my job, moved back to Atlanta and invested in myself. I learned how to just enjoy the journey. I trusted that this career in entertainment was meant for me so I became very comfortable with rejection and setbacks! Since moving, opportunities have been flooding in. I’m releasing music, modeling, booking roles in films and shows on popular networks. It’s been a whirlwind and I’m thrilled for more exciting times on this path.
I want to share my journey and be someone that people feel uplifted and encouraged by. I want to be someone they can relate to and explore the nuances of life with through art.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of the best places I love to visiting around town are Holiday Bar for drinks and dancing, Punch Bowl Social and Slingshot for fun games and lastly, Acworth lake to relax, reflect and kayak.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents, Raymond and Donna McNeil, my family and friends who have always supported me. I also dedicate my shoutout to my truest friend for life, Drew Williams, for taking huge a leap of faith with me onto this dream to reality journey.
Lastly, the devotional book “Destiny: Step into Your Purpose” by T.D. Jakes, deserves so much credit for reigniting my faith on this path when I needed it most.
