We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Salter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small town in Northwest Florida near Pensacola. I was raised by my mother who was in the Air Force and my grandmother. Ever since I could remember I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer. I loved to dance and perform at any chance I got. Growing up, I was an only child for 10 years so I had to entertain myself. I would reenact my favorite TV shows like “That’s So Raven” and even “The Oprah Winfrey Show” with my dolls & my cousins. I was the kid that loved being in the spotlight and always participated in talent shows. I was a Theatre kid in high school and enjoyed every moment of it since I got to perform. My family has always supported my talents and dreams, even though they know it would be hard for me. However, they raised me to be resilient so I knew I could do anything I set my mind to. Without their support, I wouldn’t be in Atlanta right now, chasing my dreams and becoming the woman I’m destined to be.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am super proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far! In 2017, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with my Bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television. Ever since then, I’ve had plenty of setbacks and rejections that slowed things down. I don’t ever give up on what I am passionate about so I prayed and manifested my life in Atlanta for years then I moved here in 2021. Now it’s all coming into fruition! I started to shift my ambitions towards producing more black TV shows and movies. My goal is to write about and show black women in light hearted, comedic, positive, and romantic stories on film and TV. I’m excited to share my creativity and become a media mogul like Issa Rae. I’ve learned that nothing ever worth having is easy both professionally and personally. If it was easy, everyone would do it. I’m working hard to become an actress, writer, and producer with my own show and production company. I would want someone to hear my story and say, “Her determination and spirit makes me want to push myself to be better and accomplish my dreams.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely a nice walk on the BeltLine! There are so many things to do in that area since Piedmont Park and Ponce City Market are near. Then we would go to a nice rooftop bar like Skyline Park at Ponce City Market or Drawbar at Interlock for the views. I am a huge foodie, so we would definitely try some new food spots that are more than likely recommended by VibesinATL on TikTok. Any seasonal festivals or events at the parks would be fun to attend. It definitely wouldn’t be a trip to Atlanta without going to a lounge and eating some lamb chops and hot lemon pepper wings!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be here without God’s guidance and blessings. My family, especially my mother (Daphne) and grandmother (Tee) who made so many sacrifices for me, deserve their credit. Also, my friends mean the world to me because they have always kept my spirits up. I have to shout out Kalvo Griffin and John Wyche. We all came from the same area and worked together on projects. Working with John for the first time last year was a breakthrough for so many other gigs and connections here in Atlanta. Also, shout out to Anthony Hudson for giving me the lead role in his first short film. And of course, Justin Turner for the constant reassurance and support. Oh, and just a general shout out to everyone who has supported me in any way thus far! It feels amazing to hear from someone that they believe in me and can’t wait to see what’s next in my journey!
