We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Crump and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is having a real relationship with God and having a great personality. One thing I’ve learned is that God’s grace will put you in places, that you didn’t even think was possible. He gave me the dream and vision that one day I was going to be on the New York’s Best Sellers list. Once I was given the dream, I decided to no longer continue to procrastinate, and get my book published. I mentioned my personality, because having a good personality is key to getting further in life. I’m able to amaze people with my comedic wit and smile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something else that I’m most proud of is my comedy career. I started doing comedy in 2016, when I was attending Clark Atlanta University. Since elementary school, I’ve had many people who told me I was hilarious. When I was graduating high school, I had someone tell me that I need to have a camera follow me around for a year, because I’m hysterical. I started via Snapchat, and in 2018 I imported my videos to Instagram and Facebook. I started doing standup in 2019. I will say it’s not always easy, especially when we live in a cancel culture, and the amount of sensitivity is at an all time high. Along with realizing that standup isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. You really have to keep people entertained for an extended period of time. I overcame the challenges of the cancel culture, by continuing to say what I want, and learning that people will either like you or not, and they’ll come back supporting you when you become popular. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is that not to give up, because in the comedic business world, it takes time to have a big name for yourself, and you’ll be told no more than you’re told yes. What I want the world to know about my story is that I’m a living testimony, not to allow people to get you off the plan that God has set for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Ponce City Market, Studio Movie Grille, or go to the Chattahoochee River. They have monthly fun events, a slew of restuarants, Skyline Park which is an amusement park; along with the Beltline. Studio Movie Grille is a movie theater where you can eat gourmet food, while watching your favorite movies. If you’re into paddleboarding, water tubing, or any other fun water activities, I would suggest going to the Chattahoochee River, and being one with the water.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout God, Brandon, and Shakira. Brandon was someone who I’ve known since middle school, and was the editor behind my book. He made sure not to give up on me during the process, and that was something I really appreciated of him. Shakira was someone who helped get my book published on Amazon, when I was about to give up, since I didn’t have the correct requirements, and kept getting denied. She connected me with Facebook author groups, so I can start getting a name for myself.
