Meet Kendra Collier | Candle Therapist & Candle Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Collier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to be a business owner. I can remember being 6 or 7 and my grandmother buying me a typewriter(way back then…lol) and setting up a desk and work area for me and letting me pretend to run my own business in her den. My mother was also a successful daycare owner. Entrepreneurship has always been all around me and almost like it was inevitable. The idea was finally manifested in 2019 while on family vacation in Florida. I woke up one morning and I told my husband “I am going to be a business owner.” His first question was “Doing what?” At the time I had no idea but as soon as we got home I started doing research. I have always been told to go into business doing something that you already love. My love for psychology and mental health and my family’s love for candles is how Candle Therapy Company was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from other candle makers is my love for mental health. Candle Therapy is not just another candle company, we are committed to raising awareness to the need for self care, mental health awareness and helping our community. I am most proud of being able to start a business on my own from just an idea and growing it to where it is now. I got to where I am by stepping out on faith and trusting God to provide the increase. I have worked hard some nights not getting any sleep in the name of research and making sure that I am providing the quality products that my customers deserve. It was not easy, but I know that my hard work and perseverance will pay off in the end. I have learned just how creative, tenacious, resilient, and strong I am and there is still so much left to learn. I overcame self doubt through my faith, support of close family and friends and knowing that failure is not an option. During the day I work a full time job, I am also a wife, and a mother to 5 year old twins and at night I work on building my empire. I want the world to know how committed I am to my craft and that I am just getting started. Anything is possible with the right mind set and work ethic.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a very laid back person but I love music, poetry and scenic settings. The first place I would take her would be the waterfall in downtown Greenville, SC. We would then find a local restaurant to eat lunch at. When evening hit we would find a restaurant with live music our a poetry club. The most fun to me is had in a very low key jazz, blues or poetry spot with live music with close friends and good food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank God first. I want to shoutout my husband and my kids for being my constant reminder of who and what I am doing this for and for their constant support. I also want to shoutout my family, friends, supporters and anyone who has provided words of encouragement and that has trusted me to supply the best quality products and allowed Candle Therapy to be a part of their lives.
