Meet Kendra Clay: Custodian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Clay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is finally walking in my purpose and being in control of my world. Majority of my life I have allowed people’s opinion to weigh heavy on my final decisions, and I made a choice that this is my life so if what I’m doing isn’t hurting or hindering myself or others and I’ve consulted with God about it then what someone else “thinks” I should be doing doesn’t really matter. My happiness are things I find peace in and not things that leave me in pieces. I’m living in my truth and taking the steps that I need to keep moving forward in my journey of happy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ken Care got started because I was unable to find full time work. I had been looking for employment since getting my degree in Business from Brenau University in 2017. I had two part-time cleaning jobs that when combined together I still wasn’t making anything. In 2019, I was going through a rough time mentally and financially and just wasn’t feeling fulfilled and someone close to me at the time suggested that I just start my own cleaning business. I always wanted to and I had years of Facebook post in my memories to confirm wanting to do that, but the time was never right, and this time the timing felt right.

So, in April of 2019, I decided to start Ken Care. I named it that because my name is Kendra and a lot of people call me “Ken” and I really care about cleaning and making sure my clients are satisfied once the job is done. I became Ken Care Cleaning LLC August 22, 2019. I still have a lot of growing, learning and building to do, but I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t have God and my strong support system of family and friends that I was blessed with. I am also grateful for the people that trust me to come into their homes.

It hasn’t been smooth, but it also hasn’t been rough. I think the main thing for me is to trust my journey and not worry about what anyone else is doing. When you know your purpose, you continue to walk in that purpose. Nothing comes easy and I think working hard for something really makes you appreciate it fully. Consistent clientele was something that could be considered a challenge, but I think once you just do the work and people see your consistency and the effort you put in then they are willing to take that gamble on you.

Ken Care Cleaning LLC specializes in residential cleanings. We do commercial cleanings here and there, but our main focus are homes. Our business does deep cleanings, standard cleanings, or move in/out cleanings. These cleanings vary from cleaning your baseboards to cleaning your appliances to something as simple as dusting and vacuuming. It all depends on what the client wants. We can come weekly, bi-weekly, once a month or every quarter. Our goal is to accommodate and make it easier for the clients. Who wouldn’t want to be in a clean space? What I am most proud of as a company is not giving up. It’s a million people who have cleaning companies, but I think what keeps me going is knowing that the clients that are meant for me are going to be for me. You win some, you lose some, that’s just part of the business and life in general.

What sets Ken Care a part from others is that we don’t worry about the “OTHERS” we do what we need to do when it needs to be done. We’re our own competition and trying to be better than we were yesterday is always the goal.

My plans for the future is to expand Ken Care. Start with other cities in Georgia then eventually go to other states. There is no rush though, but I know it will happen when it’s the right time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge introvert so I don’t go out much or be out like that, but I do know that downtown Augusta is a major move for most of the residents here that like the night life. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family (my dad, mom, siblings, nephew, nieces and my aunts). We are all so very supportive of each other and I gotta always give credit to my main village.
