We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
7for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 1 Timothy 6:7

I chose this scripture because it reminds me to seek after that which is important. What matters most to me is peace of mind and helping others achieve their own peace of mind. Society leads us to believe that the more money, things, and status you have, the more accepted, loved, and happier you will be. We have seen recently that that is not the case. People tend to wear masks and pretend that everything is fine and we tend to believe what we see on the outside never really knowing what is going on on the inside. I approach life with the attitude that tangible things are not as valuable as intangible ones. These things truly give you acceptance, make you feel loved, and bring you joy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My business is Fit Mom Keni (For Moms by a Mom). What sets me apart from others is that I focus on the physical and mental health of my clients. Being a woman, I know firsthand how society treats women that don’t live up to the standard of beauty set before them. You’re either too fat, too skinny, too tall, too short, too loose, stuck up and the list goes on and on. This can take a toll on your mental health and that affects your physical health which I can speak of firsthand. I have battled depression and anxiety for years and it manifested itself by taking a toll on my body. I lost weight, lost my hair, and was in a very unhealthy and dark place. Fitness helped me reshape my thinking and allowed me to find my way out of the darkness to become the person you see today. A person I am extremely proud of. I want the women I serve, whether they are moms or not, to know that it’s ok to not be perfect, it is also ok to not be ok and there is nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it. When you look in the mirror, you should see someone that you are proud of, flaws and all, and not let what someone says, feels, or thinks about you affect you in a negative way because words only have the power you give them.

I help women take back their power and own who they are authentically and unapologetically.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Atlanta and there are so many great things to see, do, and taste in the A-T-L. First thing that comes to mind is the rich cultural and social history of Atlanta. Everyone knows that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was born in Atlanta and you cannot visit without going to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Then a trip to the New Black Wall Street, which is inspired by the history of Black Wall Street in Oklahoma. There we can enjoy tea time at Mattie’s Tea Room and enjoy a jazz concert at the Pink Lion Jazz Club. We would continue our adventure by visiting the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Fern Bank Natural History Museum, the Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coca-Cola. I would take my best friend to Ponce City Market. Ponce City Market has something for everyone. Whether you are a foodie, a shop-a-holic, or a people watcher, it offers a different experience every day. It offers unbelievable views, food, and festivities along with different events to keep you entertained and promises that you will never have a dull moment. We would then go to The Battery to have fun in the Escape Room and then visit ASW Distillery and then cheer for America’s Team, the hometown Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. For a more relaxing, self-paced time, we would visit Zoo Atlanta and dine at Two Urban Licks. The salmon chips are amazing! To get in touch with the kid in all of us, we would attend a puppet show at The Center for Puppetry Arts and Legoland. At the end of the journey, we would spend a relaxing morning at the Atlanta Breakfast Club and then ride the Skyview Ferris Wheel.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God Elohim – My relationship with God has played the biggest role in my success and mental well-being. I do everything with faith knowing that I have True God in my corner. My sisters, Darlene Desmangles and Merideth Alexander. – They have been there for me through the highs and the lows of life. They continue to show up for me even on the days it’s hard to show up for myself. Healthy platonic, aligned, mutual, same-sexrelationships (sisterhoods) are an underrated luxury and I am blessed to experience it in my lifetime. My daughter, Eden Ebadan- She is the reason why I get up every day with a mind of excellence. I want to show her that it’s possible to have whatever you want in this life and also teach her to be resilient and My Mom, Danii Green – My mom raised me to be the strong woman I am today and has always accepted me as I am. She sacrificed a lot for my siblings and I especially after my stepdad passed away a few years ago. She singlehandedly held our family together and still continues to pour into us. She is the definition of selfless. I’m thankful for her guidance and I’m thankful to experience her unconditional love.
