We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, how does your business help the community?
My business was created to help my clients amplify their professional expertise, refine their professional narrative, and secure the higher paying opportunities to get the quality of life they deserve NOW. I greatly believe that people of color have historically made less money because we have accepted LESS. I work with my clients to get strategic about their career so that they can have the knowledge going in that our counterparts have had from the beginning of time. So its never been about a how many jobs I can get for me because at this point its too many to count but it is rather about how can I impact their lives. Its way more than just about a JOB. My average client yields at least at 14,000 annual salary increase. Which may allow them to stop living paycheck to paycheck, give them opportunities to see the world, and just live better altogether. I want to give that x10 to every single on of clients and people I encounter. I have built my company on this because in the end I am not trying to get rich off team but instead help them to ACTIVATE their next level. That’s where my purpose come from. I have always been super passionate about people development.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would like to think I have lived many lives but truly I feel I would not have been where I am in my career and business without the connections I have been able to make. I often times remember going to grad school while working a full time job, holding down a part time job and barely juggling an internship. Those times were hard but I think my upbringing has equipped me with a drive that pushes me even when I want to give up. Not to mention, coming from a single parent household often times you cant give up because you feel like too many people are counting on you. I remember being the new graduate thinking I knew everything only to be discouraged by the reality that it is never what you know but mostly “how you know” I learned that lesson early on in my career when I found out that some of my colleagues who did the same job I was doing, while making 25,000 more than me. Once I learned that lesson I vowed to impact as many lives as I can by ensuring they did not fall victim to the same pitfalls I fell for. Never would I ever undervalue myself and I am on a mission to ensure everyone I come in contact with has the tools to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Brunch is a lifestyle so you can often find me there I also absolutely love drinks from a nice rooftop in Summer

Love love Ponce City Market and everything about it! Next up, the aquarium makes the perfect pregame for a romantic date night (I’m a water nerd like that)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout programs that don’t get enough praise such as Angel Tree (I was a angel tree kid- another story for another day), Girl Scouts of America, Trio Programs and Upward Bound. I dont know where I would be without the exposure of each of these.
