We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is from my favorite video game actually.
” We all make choices in life, but in the end our choices make us.” – Andrew Ryan, Bioshock.
Funny enough the character that says this is the “bad guy”, but the quote itself holds a good bit of importance in my life because it’s really so true. We all make choices in our lives and those choices define who we are. I carry that with me not only in my personal life, but into my business. Anyone who runs a business knows it’s nothing BUT choices. You alone make those and that can make or break it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a photographer and it’s my livelihood! I capture moments and memories for people to have for the rest of their lives. A moment stuck in time! I set myself apart from everyone with the obvious different editing style from my fellow photogs, but I think I also am different in ways of personality, compassion, and affordability. I have tried my very best to keep my business as affordable as I can. I came from a home with not a lot, but my dad did what he could to ensure I knew no different. I want to pass that on to other families or people who want to be able to have these memories, but don’t know if they can. I want everyone to be able to feel comfortable and confident in knowing I can provide them with memories that will stand the test of time.
I got where I am today from multiple different outpours of encouragement, teachings and love. I learned all I know from the people around me in the business and for them I am forever grateful. However, it hasn’t always been easy. I’ve been through trials and challenges and I still go through them today. Overcoming them has and always will be challenging, but keeping a level head and asking for help when you need it is the key to overcoming any issue set in front of you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my gosh. I love exploring and I love site seeing. I’d have to start with my home town, Cleveland, Ga. It’s absolutely stunning and there’s so much to see when it comes to nature. Yonah Mountain is a staple.
A quick drive takes you to Helen, Ga a nice little alpine village which has so many awesome things to do and see. Can’t miss out tubing down the Chattahoochee!
Next is Athens, Ga. Home to the Bulldogs! I live here and work from here. It’s small but boy is it mighty. It’s got everything you can think of. The feeling is homey, but also definitely gives city! Can’t miss out on Mama’s Boy or The World Famous.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to firstly dedicate my story to my family. My husband & children are who get me through it. Without them I’m not sure I’d be where I am right now. They give me all the love and encouragement I could ever need.
Secondly, I want to dedicate this to my instructors at North Georgia Tech. Ms. Henderson & Mr. Loring have taught me so much and I am so beyond thankful for them. They’re always a phone call away and that means the world. They’re more than just teachers to me.
Thirdly, my own personal photographer, my best friend, and the best aunty ever.
without you, I’d have no idea what I’m doing. so thank you.
