We had the good fortune of connecting with Keke The Great and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keke, why did you pursue a creative career?
Of course there’s always an interesting backstory…. It all started when I was about 6 years young. I was a bit of a loner especially because I had what some would call a weird way of thinking. I did not want to play with many toys and play video games all day. When I was not outside imagining what each rider in the vehicles passing by lives were like. I would create my own imaginary world in my bedroom to escape. I would create different characters and act them out. After I started singing at age 8. I started writing poetry at 10 and my own music at 12 years young. After I went on to create a comic book made out of looseleaf paper called, The Generals Daughter, by the age of 14. Which was a bit provocative for my age. Don’t tell anyone lol. I had the pleasure of playing the tenor drum and a little clarinet throughout my sophomore/junior years of high school in New Orleans. I also performed my poetry in a high school poetry contest and participated in black history plays. I won a singing competition against 300 contestants and was in the top 20 for American Music Search. My vocals are shot after smoking. Kids do not smoke!!! I started creating comedy skits in 2017 but feared the stage but we will get back to that. After I became a self published author after writing three books found on Amazon, Love, Lust & Secrets: The Epitome of an Unsustainable Life, Wet Urges and Sexual Beast: Tales of the Barbarian Part 1. I had a speaking role in my first short film on YouTube called, The Hairst. Throughout my life my mother would tell me to stop talking crazy and being goofy. I hate to say it but that led me to the art of comedy lol. Things most people wouldn’t say I’m definitely going to say it 🤷🏾‍♀️ I had the opportunity to do an Instagram live Talent show for the legendary comedian Michael Colyar over a year ago. I would get in my own head and tell myself not to get on someone’s stage for 4 years. I attended one of Michael Colyar’s standup shows at Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta. No lie I was highly motivated. The crazy or creative juices started flowing lol. I contacted one of the best promoters in Atlanta, comedian Demako, and was booked to perform at Uptown Comedy Corner. My first show was amazing especially because my parents were there. I felt so alive. I went to St. Louis a few months later and won first place in a comedy standup show. After I’ve had the pleasure of working with many other great names in Atlanta. The journey has only begun.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being patient and allowing God to equip me with all things touched by him sets me apart from most. I’m most proud of being able to show my creative side through my skits and witty jokes on stage. I got to where I am today by being patient and observing the art. It wasn’t easy but it’s definitely worth it to always bet on yourself for the better. The lessons I learned in the comedy world was that people are starting to lack a sense of humor as if we have many lives. Laughing heals pain. Trust I know. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a family member visiting I would take them too Escobar South in Morrow, Ga on a Wednesday night. There’s a comedy & karaoke show each and every Wednesday. It’s powered by Pbrownlive. It’s also hosted by Pbrownlive and Mario Tory. Plus you get to see me perform.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shouts out to Michael Colyar for inspiring me to finally get on stage. Shouts out to Gerald Kelly for always reminding me and others that we are stars. Shouts out to Tenishia (Sheis_T) on Instagram for giving me an opportunity that I can’t quite speak on yet. Shouts out to everyone taking from this world but putting back more. I love you all.
