We had the good fortune of connecting with KeithAlexander Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KeithAlexander, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I think I am slowly headed towards a more happy medium than when I first graduated. I was understandably extremely anxious when as a fresh grad looking to start my career as an illustrator. I was putting everything else on hold while I prioritized finding jobs to get started. I was lucky enough to have been pick up by my current rep after a few months of searching. My anxiety then found a new focus, perfecting my craft. I wanted to improve my illustration skills. And as a conceptual illustrator, that’s all my could think of. How to push my concepts further. While this will be a life long pursue, I have learnt to slow down a bit, carve out some time for family and loved ones more.

The shift in balance had me feeling very guilty for a while, because I feel like anytime I am not putting into work, I am taking a detour to bettering myself at a professional capacity. But I have come to realize that pursuing excellency in this line of work takes a lifetime and then some more. Then it is important that I also make time for other things that are also important to me, like my family and loved ones.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently working as a conceptual illustrator, my work is best fitted for and seen in the editorial and advertising market. Arriving to my current career was not without its twists and turns. But every obstacle or challenge has been a contributing factor towards my dedication and has fueled my motivation to put forth all my effort behind every piece of illustration I create. I am extremely blessed to be able to work as an illustrator and have clients entrust me to create a visual that fits their story. I pride myself in creating illustration that challenge our conventional thinking. I love to create illustrations where my audience can join me in seeing a different side of things together. If I can create an illustration where people will stop to think “wow that is very interesting!” then it would definitely give me the most joy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are a few nice hiking trails around. As a person who loved hiking, I’d probably take them for a hike and then go for some beers and wings!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been lucky enough to be able to pursue my career without any worries thanks to my wife, family, and countless friends’ encouragement and support. I would also like to thank Mr. Craig Frazier for always been there when I needed guidance on my work and life overall.
