We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha M. Tarver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha, what do you attribute your success to?
Love. Having a good heart and staying true to self has taken me a long way. I genuinely believe that nothing can stop you, as long as you put in the work and your intentions are pure. I do everything out of love – love for music and my culture.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to consider myself a renaissance woman. I own a Hip Hop magazine and am an author, avid reader, and lover of the arts. I’m also a single mother of 5 and college graduate.

When I was younger, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. So, I floated around, trying out so many things. I wouldn’t say it was a waste of time since everything is a learning experience. But, it would’ve been nice to have that blueprint early on.

It wasn’t easy to get to where I am now, but I tapped in and kept my eye on the prize during dark times. Honestly, I still don’t know how I got through many of the obstacles I’ve faced. But, I believe my optimism and confidence in myself play a huge role in my success.

Aside from that, my continuous search for wisdom has played an even bigger role in my life. If it’s not in a book, you can learn from other people’s experiences just by getting out in the world and talking to people. Don’t box yourself in. Be open to new experiences and see how far you can go!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t had a chance to visit Atlanta yet. But, I heard Magic City is amazing. So, that would be my first stop.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to all the amazing women in my life. Your words of encouragement mean the world to me.
