We had the good fortune of connecting with Kee The Performer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kee, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you should stay true to yourself and your art because no one is going to have you like you do, No matter what you do or how talented you are, everyone will not be satisfied. I used to be so worried about how my talents were perceived by others that I honestly started losing myself. I feel that society puts pressure on a lot of us because it makes you feel that you should look a certain way or live a certain lifestyle in order to make it. Why be like others when you can be unapologetically you in your own lane? I make my music for me because at the end of the day my art is my form of expression. If the people love it, great! If they don’t, that’s great too! You not popping if you don’t have haters!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am known as Kee The Performer, and honestly the name speaks for itself. I am an artist who sings, dances, and down right entertains. What sets me apart is my style of music because my sound is more retro with a modern twist unlike todays music. I honestly take pride in my sound because I know that my audience considers it “feel good” music and it makes me happy that I can indeed affect people positively.

I’ve always known that being an artist was something I truly wanted. My parents got me involved in so many art related extracurricular activities which fueled my passion. I learned early on that the journey wasn’t going to be easy. There’s been plenty of times where I was told no or didn’t win competitions but that only pushed me to go harder and perfect my God-given talents. Though many times I was discouraged I couldn’t let that stop me from going after my dream. If I let the “no’s” get in the way I would never get far in life. I had to learn that everything isn’t for me and when one door closes, you must go build your own. As an artist, sometimes you have to create your own opportunities and you never know that opportunity may take you exactly where you need to be. I’ve learned that you truly need to have faith, take that risk and bet on yourself!

I am currently working on a couple of projects that I am so excited to share with the world! One of them will be dropping soon and if you haven’t already please subscribe to my Youtube channel and my social media platforms so you can keep up with the drop! And be on the lookout for me, okay? I am going to be on all the big screens, on your radios, and performing in front of huge audiences really soon!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is full of so many promising things it would be hard to fit everything into one week! But if I was rehearsal and work free and my best friend was in town, our itinerary would be something along the lines of this:

Monday: Settle in and catch happy hour at Tom, Dick and Hanks Atlanta location. My favorite is the Peach Panties and I always get those smoke wings with their signature mustard bbq sauce. That night might we may rest up to prepare for the week.

Tuesday: It’s TacoTuesday so Mexican would be the move of course. We would hit up one of my favorites Agavero in West Midtown or Lachingada because they have a bomb atmosphere, hookah, and of course Tequila. Depending on how lit we are we might even hit a strength pole class at Pink Pole Studios for $10 Tuesdays. It’s a great workout and overall just fun!

Wednesday: It’s Wing Wednesday so we hitting up my favorite wing spot JR Crickets in Smyrna. That South Cobb way does something to my spirit, ok?! Definitely making our way downtown to do some sight seeing and take plenty of pictures. End the night on Edgewood Ave jumping from bar to bar!

Thursday: Bike riding on the Beltline and have to grab lunch at the Poke’ bar on Caroline. We may get something sweet too from one of my favorite ice cream spots, Jeni’s. Visit Little Five Points and check out some of the dope boutiques and store out there and dinner at the Vortex. We can end the night at Crave right down the street.

Friday: We turning up because it’s the weekend! Going to the trap museum to kick off the day and hitting Slutty Vegan for lunch. We have to visit the Battery to go to Phat Tuesdays and get the souvenir drink and walk around looking stylish and cute. Ending the night at Escobar or The Royal Peacock for sure!

Saturday: Brunch at BQE or Boogaloos and that’s all we need because once the bottomless mimosas hit we will be knocked out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my parents because without them I would not be here doing what I love! They’ve supported me on my journey and I know that they will continue doing so. I also want to shout out My House Mother, Lauren Virdure, she has been a huge light in mentorship for me the past couple of years and I appreciate everything she has done for me! Lastly, I have to shoutout to all my loyal supporters and listeners. I am so grateful for you all and I appreciate every single last one of you! Thank you for continuously vibing with me! I love you all!
