We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaysel Caribay Weiner-Huice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaysel Caribay, what’s your definition for success?
Beauty is not the only thing in the eye of the beholder. Over the last few years, my definition of success has been expanding. The social media era can put so many pressures on us to have our lives together by 25, and that is on top of the societal assumption that women expire by 40 at best. I don’t want to ever reach an age where I am not mindfully working towards my dream life. That is my definition of success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Atlanta-born and raised creative, graduating with a Research Honors BFA in Interior Design and minors in Spanish and Entrepreneurship from Georgia State University in May 2022. I have a passion for activism in my work, art, and everyday life. I strive to make things better than how I found them. As a designer I strive to create sustainable, inclusive, accessible, community centric designs for my interior and branding projects. As an artist I work with 90% second hand and found items- the nice way to say trash- and have been a featured artist in the Bakery Atlanta’s Cycles Reviving Found Materials in 2021. As a founder I am very excited to be launching Mio Amore with my co-founder very soon and scaleing Capsule Shop. As someone who stayes as busy as possible the biggest lesson, one I am still mastering, is to get comfortable letting yourself do absolutely nothing. To reference one of my favorite tik-toks, often we aren’t doing too much, we are doing too little of the things that are good for us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love showing off Atlanta! I will give a full-on history and cultural tour to anyone who will listen! I will always be a midtown girl; my mom would take me on the train from Doraville to Art Center growing up. If I am going to treat myself and a friend for a day, I would do the High Museum and MODA, a picnic at Piedmont Park, explore the Botanical Gardens as the sun sets, and then head up to Colony Square for dinner. Now, for a week-long itinerary, I love exploring Dekalb avenue. Morning walks in Oakland Cemetary and Full Commission for brunch are never a bad start to a day. Heading to the King Center for the afternoon and then getting lunch on Edgewood, I love Ammazza pizza, especially for any vegan pizza lovers! It is easy to walk down to the Beltline from there, walk, bike, scooter to explore Krog Street and the Stacks Squares murals. Candler Park is great for picnics; Flying Buscitt, Fellinies, and the Candler Park Market are all within walking distance, and during spring, the streets are lined with flowering trees! Lake Claire, especially when there are festivals, is great to connect to nature and introduce kids to gardening! I would head to East Atlanta Village for delicious dinner and drinks; Gaja Korean Bar is one of my favorites. My friends and I would head down to Little Five growing up, vintage shopping, the Porter, and pool at Corner Tavern, especially when the weather is a bit colder is never a bad day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love having books, podcasts, and people to learn from as a lifelong learner; as someone with ADHD having people with similarities following their passions to look up to is inspirational. My current obsession for the last year has been Alie Ward’s Ologies podcast. I have learned so much about how my ADHD brain works, how to harness the good and unlearn bad habits, and a plethora of new information and life lessons from various scientists and academics.
