We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Weathers (boss K) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla Weathers, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, even from a young age. At just 10 years old, I started my first business and built my own website. As I grew older, I gained valuable experience in marketing, content curation, production, and other areas, which shaped my passion for helping others succeed.

The inspiration behind starting BOSS CO., a digital solutions agency, was simple: I wanted to empower individuals and businesses to achieve their dreams through social media management, content creation, and digital advertising. I am deeply grateful to God for placing this vision on my heart and equipping me with the tools and skills to bring it to life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My entrepreneurial journey began with Bossy Lips, a cosmetics line offering lip gloss, lip liners, matte colors, and more. This brand was inspired by my personal experiences with insecurity. Growing up, I dealt with eczema that affected my lips, which made me self-conscious. Bossy Lips was created to help women feel confident and beautiful, particularly those who may face similar struggles. Although the brand is currently under reconstruction, I am thrilled to relaunch in 2025 with a renewed vision.

In addition to Bossy Lips, I founded BOSS CO., a digital solutions agency that reflects my passion for problem-solving and helping others succeed. At BOSS CO., I provide services in marketing, social media management, content creation, and digital advertising. I am certified in running digital ad campaigns for YouTube and Google and have managed successful campaigns that deliver impactful results.

To further empower individuals, I developed the Digital Boss Budget Book—a tool designed to make budgeting simple and effective. It tracks income, expenses, and bills, while also offering monthly and quarterly financial reviews. I created this for people, like myself, who are serious about managing their finances and want a straightforward way to stay on top of their goals.

This year, I’m also excited to launch a self-love eBook and merchandise line. The eBook includes a 30-day journal to help individuals build confidence and practice self-love. This project is especially meaningful to me because, as a dark-skinned woman, I’ve struggled with self-acceptance in a society that doesn’t always embrace diversity. My hope is that this book will inspire others to embrace their beauty and worth unapologetically.

Getting to where I am today has not been easy. Building businesses requires resilience, adaptability, and a deep sense of purpose. I’ve faced challenges, but my faith and determination have always carried me forward. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that every setback is an opportunity to grow and innovate.

What sets me and my brands apart is the heart and intentionality behind everything I create. Every product and service is born from a desire to empower others—whether it’s building confidence, achieving financial freedom, or growing a business. My story is one of faith, perseverance, and purpose, and my mission is to inspire others to dream boldly, live confidently, and succeed unapologetically.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In all honesty, I’m not someone who goes out a lot, but if my best friend were visiting, I’d still make sure they had an unforgettable time. We’d start the week with a visit to the High Museum of Art to soak in some culture and creativity. For dinner, we’d enjoy a meal at Rock Steady—it’s a must for incredible food and a great vibe.

For nightlife, we’d probably check out spots like Terranga City, Ember, or Blue Lagoon, depending on the mood. As for drinks, Atlanta has so many great bars that we’d just pick one and enjoy whatever the night brings.

Knowing me and my best friend, we’d also need a self-care day in the mix. That would mean staying in, relaxing, watching our favorite movies, and sipping wine—a perfect way to recharge before diving back into the city’s energy.

And we would go to 2819 church for worship service.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to give all glory to God, as I am nothing without Him. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my parents, who have been unwaveringly supportive of me and every endeavor I’ve pursued, as well as my entire family for their constant encouragement. Additionally, I am deeply thankful to my mentors, who have invested in me, guided my development, and provided countless opportunities for growth.
