We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaviar Sundays and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaviar, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Discipline and consistency are the two habits that I feel have helped me succeed. On my last birthday I decided to give up drinking hard liquor and it made a world of difference in my life. It allowed me to have a space in which I created a boundary I could stick to. It also allowed me to save a ton of money and direct my money further into my craft.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to say that I am a woman of many talents. A Jane of all trades if you will. My biggest passion is the music I create as a rapper but the work that makes my heart feel most full is the non-profit I run in DC. The name of my foundation is called Hoop For All and what we do is raise money for disadvantaged health patients & students from low income communities. I believe what sets me apart from many other artists is the work that I do is always to help others. I create my music to make others feel good and inspired to truly be themselves. What sets our non-profit apart is the very same thing that makes me most proud of it. Very exciting to announce that we are doing a park remodel & reveal in Washington D.C. with Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. It is our first park remodel on the very courts we held our first tournament.
I got where I am professionally by maintaining close relationships with my community back home as well as continuously putting myself out there in the music world. Nothing is easy. I’m laughing when I say this because when things aren’t easy they feel so much better when you actually attain success from whatever it is you are hoping to achieve. I overcame my challenges by understanding that the adverse moments provide me with growth and help me remember I am worthy.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that I am worthy. I’m worthy of all of my hearts desires and I will have them but they will not come overnight. I want the world to know that I just need them to follow along for the ride. My story will tell itself. They just have to keep watching. My brand will grow, I just need a little investment of time and energy. I can show everyone much better than I can tell them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay! So of course it really depends on which friend but because I’m pretty well rounded the first thing I’m doing is taking my friend to Ponce City Market. There’s food and we can’t forget the rooftop. I’d give them an overview of the city and do some eating. Next I’d take them to Bartaco and Rock Steady for some more good food and vibes. We’d probably need to rest up until the next day. Over the next few days I’d be sure we hit the Beltline, Pirate’s Boil in Smyrna, Battery Park to a Braves game, the new Westside Park, Atlantic Station, Phipps, one of the great rooftop bars, the High museum if it’s first Friday and the Botanical Gardens. I’d do as much as I can that falls within our budget because ATL has so much to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to do a major shoutout to my mother and grandmother. Those two women truly keep my head on straight, motivate and inspire me to be the person I am today. My mother has an unconditional love and support for my dreams that any child could ask for. My grandmother has the wisdom and belief system that helps me maintain a positive mindset no matter what curveballs life tends to throw my way. Very grateful to have them both in my corner.
