We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Myers, LCSW and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
“Work life balance” has morphed into “work play integration” over the last 2 years. I replace “life” with “play” because its all my life, yet play was rarely a priority. Prior to owning my own business, I would strive for balance, thinking I had to have equal parts and often compartmentalizing the two. But my reality has been that there are some days that are all about my business, and the goal is to integrate fun into as much of it as I can. While other days I am all play and find it rewarding to integrate my business into whatever I am doing. Pre-entrepreneurship, there was time for work and then there was time for the rest of my life. I would often work 50+ hours and have very little left over to give myself or my family. Now that I am in control of my schedule, it couldn’t look any different! I might still work long days now, but I do it out of inspiration instead of obligation. That energetic shift matters a lot. And it means I’m not depleted at the end of my day.
It’s not perfect, but I am more aligned today that I have ever been in my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have the unique combination of being a therapist and energy healer. As a licensed social worker, I have all the clinical training and experience that comes along with the credential, but I also believe that the energy we carry matters just as much as the mental and emotional work that needs to be done. Mix in a little life-coaching and I offer a fairly different experience for many of my clients.

My biggest challenge in getting to where I am today was me. I let fear and doubt drive the bus for far too long. In doing my own work with a coach, therapist, and energy healer, I was able to quiet the conditioned parts of me so that my authentic self could shine brightly. It was when I stopped playing small and embraced my truth that my business took off.

Biggest lesson? Mindset matters. Where my mind goes, my energy flows. I need to do my own work so that I can show up and help others do theirs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a bit of a home-body, so knowing all the cool spots isn’t really in my wheelhouse. However, I do know that Ponce City Market is one of the most fun places in Atlanta! And it’s right off the Belt Line, which is it’s own fun little adventure. The Market has food, shopping, and entertainment.
Piedmont Park would definitely be on the list of must experience places. I like to think of it as Atlanta’s Central Park. Great walking, running, biking paths and beautiful scenery.
There is no shortage of amazing eatery in the city. Greek? Let’s go to Agora! Indian? Biryani’s Place. Best Slice of pizza? Antico. Mexican and best margaritas? Taxco. Best burger? Holeman and Finch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Leanne Jamison, friend, co-host, guide, fellow therapist/life coach, began her own journey into alignment many years ago and she has challenged and supported me in every step of my journey. I’m grateful that she did the work so that she could help me do mine. Sister allows no one to play small.
