We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking does not come naturally to me. It is, in fact, very scary! But over the years of entrepreneurship I have discovered that if I am willing to bet on something – I’m gonna bet on myself every time. They say that growth comes when you get our of your comfort zone and I truly believe that. No matter how much fear I have when it comes to taking a risk or doing something new, I do it anyway and it always pays off in the long run. No risk = no reward!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Though I permanently held a camera in my hand all through my pre-teen and teenage years to take selfies and photos of my friends – I never expected that I would eventually become a photographer. It wasn’t until my love for entrepreneurship, the rise of social media, and visual content came alive that I discovered brand photography. I love the idea of being able to take a fellow business owner’s vision and turn it into a pool of on brand images and videos that they can pull from at any time to promote their business and achieve their marketing goals.

It was difficult in the beginning starting a photography business at 28, mainly because I felt I was already “late to the game.” I would look at some of my successful peers within the industry who were in their early 20’s and who created phenomenal work and the imposter syndrome would just about eat me alive.

It took a lot of self development work to overcome that imposter syndrome and learn to ‘stay in my own lane’ and to put on blinders to what anyone else was doing in their business and focus on serving my clients to grown my own business.

If you are a new entrepreneur who maybe is also feeling ‘late to the game’ – I just want you to know that it is never too late! No matter how saturated your industry feels – there is space for you, and no one else can do what you do exactly how you do it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Garden Room Ponce City Market
See a show at the Fox Theatre
World of Coke
Ferris Wheel
Georgia Aquarium

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Michael, is my biggest supporter throughout this journey of entrepreneurship! Back in 2017 when I wanted to take the leap to quit my 9-5 job to pursue working for myself, he never questioned me. He has always had faith in me and gave me support when I needed it most. From being my photo test subject to my behind the scenes shooter – he is always there to help in any way that he can. He has helped me hash out tough situations, brainstorm new business ideas, and go along with any crazy TikTok’s I ask him to do for the sake of the brand! My business is successful because of his unwavering faith in me.
