We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Grabowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started 3pieces, it was after I had visited Olympic National Park. I loved the outdoors and wanted to help protect them from the effects of climate change and the global waste problem. I remember my grandfather had told me that whenever he visited the beach, he picked up three pieces of trash. I decided to take that a step further and encourage people to pick up trash everywhere and recently, I started building trash bag stations to provide people with compostable trash bags to pick up trash in parks and near waterways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am still a high school student. I have had to study a lot and work hard to be able to take harder classes, but I always loved learning so working hard in school and studying was not too bad.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Atlanta, some of my favorite places are the Beltline, Piedmont Park, and Chastain Park. I also like to visit Ponce City Market and a restaurant called “Anis”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandfather, who gave me the idea for 3pieces and my family who has supported my love for protecting the environment
