We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Duncan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kat, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My success is founded on quality of service and personal relationships with clients. I found the white space in the Atlanta market for families that needed help streamlining the efficiencies in their lives. When you couple that with my innate love of organizing, the rest is history 🙂
What should our readers know about your business?
I started this business to help women. Everything we do is personal, from the initial conversation and consultation, to organizing their homes specifically tailored to that families needs.
I am most proud of the fact that people trust us with their space, stories, and with their referrals.
It’s also a strong point of pride knowing that I started this business from nothing.
After graduating from UGA and heading to New York, I began my professional journey, It didn’t take long for me to see that although NYC is incredible, I was meant to be in Georgia.
I really started focusing on what am I good at. What careers utilize my skills?
I knew I liked being in charge, and this was reaffirmed as I began to scope areas of interest to me while taking personality tests.
Early Dec 2015 I began working with a few Buckhead women, and in 1 week I had enough new clients to quit my day job and begin UpTown Concierge.
Was it easy? No, it was not.
Has it been worth it? Yes, insurmountably so. There isn’t a day I look back and wish I’d traveled another road, and this knowledge makes the road ahead so much more exciting.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a native Georgian I have several places near and dear to me. I really do love leaving the city and checking out all the beauty and wonder of my home state. I mean, going to the the river &/or lake with friends is one of my all time Top 5.
But I do love the culture, people, and martinis in Buckhead as well. The botanical gardens are beautiful if you can get outside. And exploring the areas of this metroplex brings new sites and adventures to locals and visitors year round.
Whether I’m grabbing a cocktail at La Colonial, checking in at Whitehall Tavern, Walking the beltline, Meeting up with friends at the dog park, or late night dancing at Johnny’s Hideaway, I here know that living, residing and working in this city is a privilege and pleasure.
And I plan to be here for many days to come.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Umbrella Dedication Shoutout I have is to all STRONG WOMEN.
The roads that run off from there where my deepest gratitude and inspiration come from are attributed to those STRONG WOMEN in my family. I’ve always been told that I can do anything as long as I give it my all, and success is contingent on the efforts made, not the chances given. Every moment is an opportunity for success, and I’m proud to say I’ve grabbed my fair share and been glad I did.
My mom owned her own transportation company in the 90’s and used this success to put my dad through law school and my brother and I through private Christian schools.
Her imprint on how to lead, raise a family, and instill innate beliefs within me that I carry daily, helped me to become the woman that I am today.
I couldn’t not shout out (very loud, and very proud) to my clients and employees who trust me with a lot of privileged information, and to me? This is quite the honor.
