We had the good fortune of connecting with Kashmiir a/k/a SevenPoundz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kashmiir, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Im originally Born and raised in Brooklyn New York before moving to Charlotte and I can honestly say i tried my best to not put myself in a box by only trying to cater to where im from so I can reach all people with my music. I have influences that stems from Atlanta/Southern rap styles as well as New York rap and find ways to blend it all while staying true to self, I love my Asap Mob and Xaviersobased just as much as I love Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne and Young Thug even some ThreeSixMafia it really also depends on the mood I’m in.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is my self expression and my reflection almost like a therapy session that you can listen too. Any song that I make conveys how Im feeling in that moment whether its happy ,sad or aggressive. It also helps me pinpoint times in my life I either want to remember or needed to release in order to progress. Heavily inspired by people like Xxxtentacion with how his music helps his supporters connect more with him as a human grounding that larger than life persona and becoming a friend to many is what I take pride in because I know there’s others that if not feel like me defiantly are like me and listening to my music could give them that sense of feeling I was once always looking for. Along the way I learned to just trust the process if its meant to be it’ll happen and nothing can stop the inevitable you might be a background character or not where you feel you’re supposed to be for a while but if youre meant to be the one it WILL happen when its supposed to. I was the underdog for a long time and even now its a little weird being treated like the main star of the show but it was meant to be so I know I can handle anything coming my way now and I want others to feel confident they can too, Your struggles are apart of your story just as much as the success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I kinda literally just did that recently when me and Lamaj went on a New York trip with The Bridge. We went to the dispensaries, Walked around Brooklyn then went to the city and he seen Times Square for the first time, Got him a bacon egg and cheese how I used to eat every morning before school, Seen/Met artist we liked, Only thing we didn’t get to do is eat some good African food and go skate at LES but there’s always next time I had a lot of fun over those 4 days.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a few people but one of those off of the top of my head gotta be Mavi the Mayor, As big of an artist as he is and all the great things ive seen from him he always made me keep going by how much love he shows to me as well as my group “ANTI”, I remember listening to him and using his type beats when I started rapping and even though I dont necessarily fit into the same genre of rap he does he never forgets to remind me how great I am and genuinely believes in me and sometimes I feel like I cant thank him enough for how much he helped cuz he probably doesn’t even know himself. I will forever be grateful for him and couldn’t’ve asked for a better introduction to the industry im perusing. To name a few more Denzel Aquino,10Cellphones, Cnote from the bridge, My manager Tony Starkx and my right hand Lamaj all played a part in showing me genuine love and support for something where at times I never thought would work but they continue to keep me on track and keep my mind on the bigger picture helping me fall in love with the grind and I love them all for it.
