We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I honestly feel that networking has lead to my success. You have to be able to branch out, and then use that as your platform to connect with the people around you.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a photographer. I mostly do sports photography. I have worked with several arena football teams, several semi-pro football teams, and Peach State Roller Derby. I am most proud of the fact that my work speaks for itself. I think what sets me apart from other photographers is that most photographers only do personal photography. I am a photographer that likes action shots. I love the game, and the momentum while shooting it. It was actually some compliments on game pictures took with an iPhone that got me where I am today. I just happened to think “if these look this good, I wonder what I can do with an actual camera”. The road definitely has not been easy. The saying is you have to spend money to make money. That could not be more true when starting out. You also have to branch out, and network to get your name out there. I think the hardest challenges I faced was actually going through the pandemic. It took sports away for the most part so shooting games was very limited. It goes back to networking, and branching out to get your name out there to be able to have that opportunity to showcase your work. As for what I would want the world to know about my story, no matter what hardships or setbacks I have faced I never gave up. Photography is my passion. So to anyone who is scared to take that leap of faith, you can achieve your dreams as long as you are willing to pursue them.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first Shout Out would have to be in memory of my semi-pro coach Rocko Moore. He took a chance on working with me, and brought me in to work with his team the Atlanta Enforcers. He gave me a shot at being part of this team, and this great family of players. He also opened the door for me to network with other semi pro teams who allowed me to come in and shoot their games. My second Shout Out would be to all of my family, and great friends for all their love and support that is always shown.
