Meet Kaniya Squire | Boutique Owner & Fashionista

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaniya Squire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaniya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion since a young girl and knew i wanted to have my own boutique one day. I love piecing different outfit looks together through collages and bringing them to life. Through the years of doing this and having people come to me for outfit ideas i knew it was time for me to invest in myself. During the beginning of covid i was able to really make out a plan of the vision i wanted for my business. Once i had everything planned out it was time to execute the plan and that’s exactly what i did.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a online boutique owner based out of Cincinnati, OH. What sets my boutique apart from other boutiques is that my boutique sells items on a limited and exclusive basis. Meaning i try to find items that i have not seen to many other places or seen at all and once the item sells out i will not restock it, unless i have gotten multiple inquiries about the item. The reasoning behind this is because i have never liked having the same item as too many other people, i always want my items to be elite and stylish. I’m sure a lot of people feel this same way which is why i decided to create my boutique Kaní Koutüre, established December 2020. Im most proud of my sales reaching outside of my home state to five other states. I hope to continue to reach to every state in the near future. I have gotten to where i am today by hard work and dedication. I was very determined during the time i had at home when covid first hit to turn my vision to reality… From late nights of research on how to create my own website to finding my own vendors, etc. No it was not easy but i knew this was something i had a passion for. I really wanted to create something of my own so i had to have patience and be consistent. A few lessons i have learned along the way would be : 1. Do what makes you happy
2. Stay consistent
3. You can’t rush the process, your time will come

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t go out to often but there’s a spot downtown Cincinnati called Copa. On Sundays they have a brunch event with bottomless mimosas. It’s such a vibe. After that we would go to another area downtown called the Banks where there is other restaurants and it’s just a nice chill spot with swings and a pretty view. During the week we would check out the different malls around the area and i would help my friend put some outfits together of course.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Someone who i would say has always supported and encouraged me would be my mom. To be honest my love for fashion and my sense of style comes from her as well. Without her i would not know how to put outfits together the way i do if she had not taught me how to style my looks. Also my close friends and family always support me from buying items from me to sharing my post on social media which helps with the promotion of my business. I truly appreciate all the love and support from them.
